is keen to cut emissions, and the automaker is looking towards electric automobiles for help. Rumor has it that a one-passenger electric vehicle is set to make its debut in Berlin, Germany on September 8th. Pretty specific details for a rumor, but we're keeping one eyebrow raised until we have more information.

There's been no mention yet of the expected range, but a Volkwagen insider has stated that EV concept will be better than the XL1 concept (pictured) shown earlier this year. That 1.0-liter, diesel-powered, super-efficient vehicle is expected to achieve 261 miles per gallon, but an electric vehicle can still top that while emitting nothing. We'll have the full details in the coming weeks.

no reason a single seat car can't exist. However the market will be small. I would like a 2 seater. That at least gives flexibility to use it as a weekend grocery getter with the significant other, or even pick up a date if your single. 2 seats vw! Unless they are making this car extremely skinny, then fuel economy won't suffer that much from stretching it a bit and making it a 2 seater (hell the Tango electric car was a 2 seater).

Ditto. I would buy this thing if it was relatively affordable. I love it!

Electric engine never emit "nothing", most of the the emissions just happen somewhere else and it's usually a coal burning power plant.

A single seater seems kinda wasteful IMO. If someone needs personal transportation for just themselves, why not a bike/motorcycle/scooter? Not a bad looking concept, but my God that A pillar is intrusive to the driver's view!

Motorcycles and scooters tend to have pretty dreadful aerodynamics, which hurts their efficiency badly. In any case, the pictured concept is a side-by-side two-seater.

The photo clearly shows 2 seats..

Well, not even seeing it I really like it. I just hope that it comes close to being cheaper than a Leaf, or Volt, or a Beetle...

Overall shape is similar to the original insight, unless this will be smaller once built...i dont see why they cant stick in 2 seats...

*fapfapfapfapfap* I'd buy one, assuming they can hit a reasonably frugal pricepoint.

I was sitting in traffic one day and realized that one-seater commuter cars should really be more popular. Lots of large cars with only one person inside. But I know that many people's commuter cars double as family vehicles, so maybe it wouldn't be such a hit.

VW needs to take that front and put it on a production sports car.

That concept car looks hot. Anyone working for VW here? tell them not to change a thing.. This sweet little car looks like the EV1 reborn, but better.
