Spy Shots: 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Mitsubishi has already told us that it will debut the all-new 2008 Lancer at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in early January. Our sources tell us that Mitsubishi doesn't have a shot in hell of keeping this thing secret until then, and this morning we find that the Lancer may already be out of the bag. Pics of what appears to be the all new Lancer have shown up on a Russian website, and while we can't verify whether or not the shots are official or well done Photoshop fakes, they do look convincing. Nevertheless, the new Mitsubishi Lancer is on deck and should be revealed in a more obvious way, either on purpose or by accident, fairly soon.

Wow, even teh base lancer looks nice. This should be a hit for Mitsubishi. It looks far better than the sentra.

I don't understand how anyone could say that this car looks bad, but thats just me. I think it looks, modern and sleek, with more of a quality "european" feel than the previous gen. stock lancer, which was just a bland, run-of-the-mill company-car type vehicle.

This is typical for a base model. There is definitely room for improvement, and that will come with the EVO or Ralliart models later on.
At this price point Mitsu isn't going to take too many risks on building a car that looks too radical. Besides, the people that buy this kind of car aren't going after looks. Most of the time they just want a reliable and inexpensive piece of transportation.
If you want to improve this example, remove the diamond logo and license plate from the front-end, throw on some 17/18 inch wheels and call it a day.
I say good job Mitsu. Just give us an AWD detuned EVO with some creature comforts, call it a Ralliart and you've got my money.

Looks like a combination of a Volvo, Civic and the last gen Sebring. But I didn't say that it was necessarily a bad combination of those. I only wish the platform were larger then I might consider it.

photoshop for sure, but i also think it's likely pretty close to the real thing. compare this to the real spy photos of the test car with camo and you can see that the silho and some of the details are a pretty good match. my guess is that this is 90% right. if that's the case, it's going to be a great car. looks very tight, nice lines, love the flares, muscular without being over-the-top. it takes a lot of what i like from volvo, acura, mazda and bmw and integrates it nicely. i'm really looking forward to this car and if the talk of a ralliart version with awd and turbo is true i think it will be a killer lineup.

WOW,
This car looks awesome the back looks EXACTLY LIKE A LEXIS "IS" series, love it.
The front is crazy though, it looks just like they re-introduced the 1999-2003 GALANT!!! I really can't belive how much the front looks like the previous gen Galant (of which I think was the best looking gen)

Photochops of the Evo X concept. Color, lighting and location are identical. Probably pretty close to teh base lancer though. Better than a Corrola and a Civic.

If this is a Photoshop, then I agree it's very well done. But I am still skeptical because this article came out back in July, and no other publication has been able to get such a clean shot today.
Furthermore, they also have an artical on the Evo X with pictures. This was taken back in January(!).

Uplons, I agree with you. I also think that the car looks like a volvo front, civic rear, and an overall shape of a mazda 3!

Looks like the real deal to me, with sheetmetal very similar to the concept, just without the agressive body kit and such.
Anything about be an improvement over the current car.
This one to me has shades of the previous generation Jetta and the Volvo S40. Not great, but certainly better.
