The Ford Mustang is sold out for 2016 in Australia

The 4,000-unit allotment of 2016 Mustangs was dominated by V8 engines and hardtop coupes, which represented close to 90 percent of the orders.

Well, if anyone thought Australians would be angry with Ford for killing the Falcon and shutting down local production, this story will probably serve as proof to the contrary. Customers in Australia have bought up the country’s entire allotment of Ford Mustangs. While that works out to only 4,000 units – a pittance for a car that’s sold over 110,000 units through the first 11 months of 2015 – it speaks volumes about the country’s enthusiasm for the redesigned muscle car.

There are some interesting stats to accompany this news, of course. According to Australia’s Car Advice, 80 percent of the cars, which won’t begin deliveries until next month, have deposits attached, while consumers are leaning overwhelmingly towards the 5.0-liter V8 GT model. It accounts for 86 percent of the entire allotment, while fastback coupes also dominated the 2016 allotment.

“We are simply overwhelmed and humbled by the reception to Mustang thus far, which is probably our closest equivalent to the Beatles first trip to Australia,” Ford Australia President and CEO Graeme Whickman told Car Advice.

Ford hasn’t announced allocations for MY2017, although somehow, we’re betting it’ll dispatch more than just 4,000 units to the land down under.
