Hyundai sales slip in Japan

The South Korean automaker will for the first time in five years see its annual sales in Japan go down, proving that Hyundai’s Midas sales touch only goes so far around the world. Its sales in Japan have fallen 12.8% in the first 10 months compared to last year. Of course, those sales only amount to about 2,021 units so far this year, but it means that Hyundai probably won’t meet its goal of selling 4,000 units there in 2005. Only the new Sonata’s sales increased, with 283 Japanese consumers shelling out the yen for Hyundai’s new sedan to date. It’s weird talking about such low volumes with any sense of significance, but we haven’t been able to report any bad news for Hyundai in a while and we thought this might break up the company’s monotonous string of successes.
