Upcoming Dallara road car spied for the first time at the Ring

Rumors have
persisted for years that Italian chassis manufacturer Dallara was finally going to move beyond racing and build a street-legal road car. Until now, everything has been hushed whispers and vague comments. Now, thanks to our always trusty spy photographers, we have our first look at Dallara’s new car out and about near the Nürburgring. It’s every bit as wild as you would expect from a company that’s been building race cars since 1972.

The low-slung car looks like a compact, road-going version of a Le Mans prototype racer, similar to something like a Noble or
the Radical RXC. Compared to the RXC, the Dallara looks absolutely open and airy with a huge glass (or more likely plexiglass) canopy. Through the wrap we can see that the bodywork is quite round, featuring aggressive aero to maximize airflow.

Out back, we can see that the mid-engine car has a massive wing that appears to be taller than the cockpit. There is a small grille covering the engine compartment that is flanked by two intakes on the top of the rear fenders. The rear has McLaren-esque exhaust outlets, up high and on either side of the license plate. A huge rear diffuser shows that this new car is all business and ready to tackle any track.

We still don’t know when the car will go on sale, how much it will cost, or what sits beneath the engine cover. Through its participation in Formula 1, GP2, Formula 3, IndyCar, and numerous other series, Dallara has contacts at Honda, Renault, and Ferrari. Look for a small displacement turbo four-cylinder in the final version.
