At the end of his life, inventor, aviator and Hollywood horn dog Howard
Hughes collected his urine and nail clippings in jars. Before he slipped into OCD-land, Mr. Hughes collected cars. His
last set of wheels— a 1954 Buick Roadmaster sedan— goes under the hammer at
Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach auction,
April 1 – 3. The pastel blue land yacht (with seafoam green top) was customized to Hughes’ “eccentric demands”. In
other words, the rear compartment was hermetically sealed and cooled by a 24-volt bacteria-trapping A/C
system. Why 24-volt? To jump-start airplanes, of course.
