Saabura 9-6X gone, to be replaced by Cadillaab 9-4X

If you’re heading up operations at Saab right now, you’ll take any platform that’s given to you. With the recent sale of GM’s stake in Subaru to Toyota, Saab lost a pair of platforms that were at its disposal. The 9-2X that shared its mechanicals with the Subaru Impreza WRX will be gone soon and the Tribeca-based 9-6X that was in the late stages of development has also been nixed. 4Car is reporting, however, that Saab is preparing to move on with a smaller SUV-wagon based on GM’s Sigma platform that underpins both the Cadillac BLS sedan and upcoming BRX SUV in Europe.

We were somewhat smitten with the Saab 9-2X as the quirky natures of both Saab and Subaru came together to form a
car that was at least as good if not better than the Impreza WRX itself. A Tribeca-based Saab, however, never made much
sense, especially with the company already building the Trailblazer-based 9-7X midsize sport-ute. The Tribeca can carry
up to seven people, but since when has seating capacity been a concern of Saab?
