Don’t be fooled by the press release on AutoIndex that
refers to this new Kia as the Magentis. That may be its global name but we in the States know it as the Optima.
Following in the footsteps of the recently redesigned Hyundai Sonata, the new Optima to be debuted in Frankfurt will
also grow in nearly every dimension and feature a host of active and passive safety features. While Europeans will be
offered a 2.0L diesel and two gas burners, North Americans will likely see the same powerplants found under the hood of
the Hyundai: a 2.4L four-cylinder and the husky 235-hp 3.3L V6. The styling is, well… tepid, for lack of a more
descriptive adjective, but expect the new Optima to be full featured and priced to move.
