Lotus lays off 350 at UK plant

Lotus’ Hethel plant will be short 350 employees soon, due to a cut in consulting for an outside manufacturer. Lotus does research on a number of automotive technologies for other companies and the loss of this one customer dealt the blow to the seemingly expendable engineers under the always useful word “restructuring.” This story states 10% of new cars in Europe feature Lotus design or engineering. These cuts won’t affect the manufacture of Elise and Exige models at the Hethel plant and the company is still planning on a new multi-million pound engineering center adjacent to the current plant.
