General Motors announced yesterday that it had resolved its legal issues with Chinese automaker Chery. The two
automakers had been sparring over a pair of issues. The first involved GM accusing Chery of aping the design of its
Spark minicar with the Chery QQ. The Spark minicar comes from South Korea’s GM Daewoo holding and the General took
Chery to court to prevent the QQ from being sold in various markets. The second legal quandary involved Chery’s own
name, which GM thought sounded a bit too much like “Chevy”. Weird thing is, the Detroit News doesn’t specify any
details of the settlement beyond the agreement that both companies will not take further action against each other. Oh
yeah, and Chery has officially changed its name to Forb.
