Chrysler, Ford, and GM missing the subcompact wave?

Where are they? That’s what Don Hammonds of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette seems to be asking in his
article about the models displayed by Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors at the North American International Auto Show
(NAIAS) in Detroit, Michigan.
“They” referred to subcompact and compact vehicles.

As  posted here on
Autoblog, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan will soon be bringing such vehicles  to the U.S (Yaris, Fit, and Versa,
respectively). But except for the Chevrolet Aveo (pictured), none of the domestics have anything comparable. Hammonds
believes such an omission is a terrible oversight, similar to the domestic automakers’ reaction to the first wave
of Japanese compacts back in the ’70s and ’80s.
