California is expanding its Low Cost Automobile Insurance Program with the aim of reducing the 14% of drivers that
carry no insurance in the state. The program doesn’t depend on government subsidies, which is the good news. The bad
news is that the coverage is limited to $20,000 per incident, which unfortunately doesn’t cover the sort of
catastrophic events that constitute the real risk of uninsured motorists. It’s still better than nothing, and
hopefully it results in reduced rates for California motorists as a whole.
