Buick’s Regal replacement, the LaCrosse, was in the news a few months ago because the auto manufacturer was forced
to rename it for the Canadian market, as in Quebec, “LaCrosse” is slang for oral sex. While I personally feel that a
stellar marketing campaign could have capitalized on the linguistic gaffe, Buick is sticking with the traditional,
conservative image and trying to use the LaCrosse to reestablish itself as a premium brand. The alterations are major—
new 200-hp and 240-hp engines, a smoother and more luxurious ride due to Buick’s “QuietTuning” program, a
well-appointed interior with a more modern layout and an exhaust system that helps the car meet the Super Ultra Low
Emissions Vehicle (SULEV) requirement. The going rate for a LaCrosse has yet to be settled upon.
