Overview
The 2027 Honda HR-V subcompact crossover SUV sits on the compact Civic’s platform and costs around $2K more than the base Civic in the U.S. It also comes with the Civic’s naturally aspirated 2.0-liter base 4-cylinder engine and CVT automatic, with two differences: here, it develops 158 hp, not 150 hp, and the default FWD can be upgraded to AWD for $1,500. The little HR-V impresses with its refined ride and roomy cabin, but the breathless engine and dull CVT count against it. Let’s see how it stacks up this year.

What’s New for 2027
Honda gave the 2026 HR-V a new infotainment system with a larger display last year, along with new wheels, standard rear privacy glass on all trims, and a new paint color. The 2027 HR-V will carry over as is, save for a $100 price increase on every trim configuration.
Exterior
The HR-V has typical subcompact crossover proportions. The front is characterized by a hexagonal black honeycomb grille with automatic LED headlights and hood creases that flow into the nose cone. The LX has 17-inch alloys, while the others sit on 18s and gain mirror-mounted LED turn signals. LED taillights are standard, but only the Sport gets gloss-black exterior trim and wheels, a chromed exhaust outlet, and sportier details that include a mesh grille and black rear badging. Rear privacy glass is standard.

Interior
The interior is roomy, with 37.7 inches of legroom and 38.0 inches of headroom in the second row. Cargo capacity is 24.4 cu-ft, and can be increased to 55.1 cu-ft by folding the 60/40-split rear seats. Standard features include air-conditioning, active noise-cancellation, a 7.0-inch digital display in the gauge cluster, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charging pad, and 4-speaker audio.
The standard Honda Sensing driver aids include forward-collision alert with automatic emergency braking, road-departure mitigation, lane-keep assist with lane-departure alert, traffic-sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control. The Sport gains rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, heated front seats, leather on the shift knob and steering wheel, and 6-speaker audio. The EX-L is the only trim with standard leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a power moonroof, 8-speaker audio, and an 8-way power driver’s seat.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Wireless smartphone integration standard
- Many standard safety kit via standard Honda Sensing suite
- Refined ride and composed handling
- Excellent outward visibility
Cons:
- Lack of engine power
- Dull CVT auto
- No hybrid powertrain option
Verdict
The HR-V is a competent subcompact with a roomy cabin, and is best enjoyed in Sport guise, which offers a fine blend of looks and features for well under $30K. It rides and handles well, the infotainment tech is democratized across the lineup, and many safety features are standard. Negatives remain the lethargic engine, dull CVT, and lack of a hybrid option in a class increasingly offering alternative propulsion.
