Overview
The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV is a compact electric SUV based on GM’s Ultium platform, and it was first launched last year as a 2024 model. It offers up to 319 miles of range and comes in two trims, namely LT and RS, that act as canvases for equipment packages, so you can create your own. Single-motor trims with front-wheel drive have 220 horsepower, while dual-motor AWD models have 300 hp.Â
It’s practical, with up to 57.2 cubic feet of cargo space, and tech-forward, with a 17.7-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster. Being eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit also pulls the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV’s price right down to the mid-$20Ks. The Equinox EV is ideal for people who want an affordable and practical compact electric SUV with a range of over 300 miles.

What’s New for 2025
Just a year after launch, the 2025 Equinox EV already comes in for some changes, starting with a simplified trim structure that reduces the number of trims to just two: LT and RS. The LT has fewer features than before, but you can spec it up via the extensive option packages.
Powertrains are updated, with the FWD trims boosted from 213 to 220 hp and the AWD ones from 288 to a nice and even 300 hp. The only other change is the introduction of a new paint color called Habanero Orange.
Exterior
The Equinox EV is as athletically styled as other contemporary Chevrolet SUVs, with slim LED headlights and a sculpted profile that give it quite a dynamic presence for a compact crossover. The LT dons 19-inch alloy wheels, with the RS looking smart on big 21s, and with flow-through rocker moldings and a black-painted grille. The optional two-tone paintwork with a black roof is a nice touch, too.

Interior
There’s space for up to five in the roomy cabin, with an ample 38 inches of rear-seat legroom, but it comes at the expense of some cargo space; the 26.4 cu-ft available behind the second row is useful, but well behind class leaders like the Honda CR-V. With the rear seat flat, 57.2 cu-ft is available.Â
Cloth upholstery is standard at the base level, but becomes Evotex leatherette on the RS, which also gets a heated steering wheel. Heated front seats are standard fare. An 11-inch digital gauge cluster is standard, but the Google-based 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system does not incorporate Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Super Cruise hands-free driving on compatible roads is available.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Starting at $33,600 before $7,500 tax credit makes it one of the most affordable EVs
- Up to 319 miles of FWD range exceeds many competitors in the compact SUV class
- 17.7-inch screen and 57.2 cubic feet of cargo deliver strong practicality
Cons:
- No Apple CarPlay or Android Auto may be a dealbreaker for many buyers
- FWD acceleration is leisurely at about seven and a half seconds to 60 mph
- Handling prioritizes comfort over engagement, trailing sportier rivals
Verdict
The Chevy Equinox EV makes a compelling case in the compact electric crossover space at a great price, once the tax credit has been deducted from the $33,600 LT. It makes it one of the most affordable EVs on the market, with an impressive 319 miles of maximum range and a roomy cabin.
The Google-based infotainment system works well, and the 17.7-inch touchscreen is huge, but the absence of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay still grates. The FWD’s performance is unhurried, but the AWD is a lot quicker for a reasonable price premium. This convenience of performance, range, space, tech, and price makes the Equinox EV an ideal jumping-off point for people who are transitioning to electric mobility.
