The Sonata Hybrid lives on for another year, and that’s great news

Not that long ago, the death of the Hyundai Sonata and Sonata Hybrid was predicted. Well, they’re still here and better than ever. The Hybrid version looks just like the gas version, only it’s less thirsty at the pump with 13 more miles per gallon on the highway. The Sonata is characterized by some of the most adventurous styling in the segment, and its recent refresh makes it more refined, especially with the thin full-width DRLs and the new bumpers and taillights.

The efficiency the hybrid version provides isn’t just a footnote. All Sonata Hybrids are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor for 192 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. It’s also great to drive thanks to a bona fide 6-speed automatic transmission, as opposed to a CVT, so the gear shifts are real rather than simulated. EPA estimates are 44 mpg city, 51 highway, and 47 combined, giving the Sonata Hybrid a rather miserly appetite for fuel.

The refresh also improved matters inside, making the Sonata Hybrid’s cabin one of the nicest in the segment. It now features dual 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreens seamlessly integrated into a single curved dash-mounted display, a new steering wheel with a more traditional (and more attractive) three-spoke design, and a gear selector that has been relocated from the center console to the steering column. The Sonata Hybrid’s base price is less than both the Camry and the Accord, and its September lease deal only adds to the appeal.

The Sonata’s total passenger volume is 104.4 cubic feet. The front row offers a substantial 46.1 inches of legroom, while the second row provides 34.8 inches of legroom. It’s a bit smaller in the back than the Accord and Camry, but the generous trunk provides 15.6 cubic feet of space, more than the Toyota Camry and the Subaru Legacy. The Sonata Hybrid’s back seat features a 60/40 split-folding design as well to accommodate larger items.

Final thoughts

Hyundai

The 2026 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is one of the most economical and sensible family sedans around, and it happens to look great in a crowd of more vanilla sedans. Its refresh was well-timed, and the sharp lines, new headlights and taillights, and upgraded in-car tech come together to make this efficient sedan a stylish one, too. It offers a ton of standard features, and the September lease deal makes it even more enticing. Before signing the lease agreement, review the costs due at signing, including taxes and registration fees, potential dealer costs, etc.
