The 2025 BMW i4 in a Nutshell
To oversimplify the i4, it’s a 4 Series Gran Coupe with its engine taken out and replaced by an electric motor. That said, it’s much more than that, as it’s BMW’s direct rival to the Tesla Model 3 and other similarly-sized EV sedans. It’s an important car for BMW, and one that has helped the brand’s electric offerings to gain more mainstream appeal.
It made its world premiere in October 2021 for the 2022 model year, a little over a year after its ICE-powered counterparts. A little fun fact is that the i4 and 4 Series Gran Coupe share the same chassis code of G26. This model received a refresh in mid-2024, getting a couple of styling tweaks and a general overhaul of its powertrain options.
Currently, there are three trims and three powertrain choices available for the i4. Prices start at $57,900 to $70,700.

2025 BMW i4 Highlights
Starting with the i4 eDrive40, it uses a single motor (hence, eDrive) that’s good for 335 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, all of which are sent to the rear wheels. It’s the only two-wheel drive model in the lineup. Move up to the xDrive40, and power rises to 396 hp and 443 lb-ft thanks to the second motor that wakes up the front wheels.
As for the M50, its dual motors put out even more than the xDrive40. The result is an output of 536 hp and 586 lb-ft of torque. But regardless of trim and powertrain, all i4s draw energy from an 83.4 kWh battery pack. The range for the eDrive40 is at 333 miles, the xDrive40 is rated up to 287 miles, and the M50 is rated at 267 miles.
But, hold on, you say. Where is the new i4 M60 in all of this? It succeeds the M50 as the top-dog i4, but that one is for the 2026 model year and not included in the lease deal. Still, we’ll share its numbers with you, which are 591 hp and 586 lb-ft.

Final Thoughts
Okay, it doesn’t have a mind-blowing range, but it does make up for it by being an enjoyable drive. It is, after all, still a 4 Series, a car that’s still fun to drive by nature. But what we like about it the most is the fact that it feels, well, like a normal car. There are no odd ergonomic quirks (coming from other BMWs), and there’s no need for any major adjustments in driving style. It’s pleasant to drive on a daily basis, and dynamic when you need it to be.
