Toyota RAV4 EV – Click above for high-res image gallery

Toyota and Tesla producing electric vehiclesIn the spring of 2010, Toyota and Tesla announced that they would be working together on future electric vehicle products. The ink is probably still wet on the $60 million contract, but Toyota and Tesla are ready to show off the fruits of their respective labor. The RAV4 EV is slated to make its debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, but Toyota has released a few teaser shots ahead of the full reveal.

Toyota has supplied the RAV4 bodies and a bundle of cash, while Tesla has developed the battery, power electronics module, electric motor, transmission and software. Thousands of laptop-like battery cells will power the RAV4 EV, but we can't speculate on the performance or efficiency figures. Engineers from Toyota will be on hand at the LA Auto Show and we will get the full scoop on the electric CUV before it goes on sale in 2012.

The way you structure a sentence must mean you sold your brain to the democrats.

A typo is a typo, but I suppose that I stand corrected. You're still an overgeneralizing idiot. :]

Sounds similar to "google powered " in the search box on yahoo in 2004 :-)

The fact that the gauge shows "Powered by Tesla" is quite fascinating (albeit apt) indeed.

Will it be a full-electric or have an internal combustion engine to extend the range in the same form as the Chevy Volt?
If Tesla's doing the drivetrain it will be full electric.

$100 says Tom Hanks buys one.

Doesn't he still own an original 1st gen RAV4 EV?
If I had his money I would buy one too.

I don't see why celebs catch crap for buying this kind of stuff but not crazy expensive ferraris and the like.

      it's back.
but will it beat the roadster 0 to 60?
I would hope that it's cheaper than the Model S, at the very least, lol
        • 4 Years Ago
The original was pretty pricey too so I wouldn't expect it to be all that cheap this time around either. Hopefully a little cheaper than the roadster though.
