The engineers at Mercedes-Benz are working tirelessly to get the all-new E-Class cabrio ready for its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. So much so that they appear to be bringing dates along for a ride in the chop-topped mules.
These newest shots of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertible are the first we've seen with the cloth top stowed away, and they reveal an interesting detail: a retractable wind deflector mounted on the top of the windshield.
Like Audi, Mercedes has opted to forgo the folding hard-top treatment for the new E, allowing the automaker to retain the coupe's hard-edged style and keep the curb weight in check. When the E-Class Convertible arrives in dealerships early next year, expect a range of six- and eight-cylinder powerplants, including the range-topping E500.

That wind deflector looks so stupid! I do hope it does not automatically go up.

saw an e class coupe in the sheet metal a few days ago. it looks fine, but why bother when a 3 coupe drives better and an s5 looks and drives better?

Agreed. The S5 kills this in convertible form too.

Taking the 3series out of the equation... I'll take the new E550 Coupe over the S5. But that's just me :)

How did you guys know this was a new MB? I can't tell a damn thing! They covered up the emblem and I have no idea!

laugh all u want but most people who aren't car enthusiasts can't distinguish cars w/out their emblems. i'm sure somebody drove by and said " that was a really nice BMW" ... which i guess again raises the question why would they cover the emblem??

I'm pretty sure it's the new Tata Nano convertible ;)

I've seen the 2010 E550 Coupe on the street... and I don't know how anyone could mistake it for anything other than a Mercedes. I think it looks spectacular... and I'm not an MB fan. the new Eclass is light-years ahead of the silly teenage girl car looking CLK, that was only acceptable as a CLK550 with the AMG sport package.
If this wasn't made so nicely the only thing a non-car-enthusiast could possibly mistake it for is a new Hyundai model... but fortunately, those don't look as good.

that think is ugly, the rear arch wheel look like a 80's car

finally, a 4 seater vert that actually seats 4 humans, and not two humans and a pair of shopping bags.

I have to admit that this car is a marvel of the industrial design. With two sqarish-Lexus-ugly headlights on either side it is not attractive at all. With a big single-piece headlights (I know it is just the tape, but it looks that way) it is just amazing.

keep it up Mercedes. Your brand and model line-up is beginning to look as convoluted and undefined as old GM...haha

Needs Oil of Olay or line-removing moisturizer STAT! Or maybe a trip to Joan Rivers' plastic surgeon? The bumper has more pock marks and lines than Andy Rooney & Larry King combined ...and that horrible Subaru Forester fender flare wasn't fresh 12 years ago. I wish newer M-Bs had the timelessness they had in the 60's, 70's and 90's. Taut and fast looking Audis and BMWs (even some Chinese coupes) look vastly more refined.

The wind deflector on the windshield header does look bizarre, but if it works it could be an interesting solution. Most big convertibles create a lot of turbulence for rear-seat passengers. And the otherwise useful back seats are a (the) purpose for getting one of these over a CLK or 3-series. The old 1994-1995 E320 Cabriolet offered a wind deflector but it covered the back seats which meant it usually got left in the trunk or at home.
I have a '94 and it's a great car but feels more than 15 years removed from modern Mercedes-Benz products. In its day, 215 horsepower and 0-60 in 8 seconds (if I'm remembering the Road and Track review correctly) were world class for a convertible as the larger and heavier Benz could outrun the Audi Cabriolet and BMW 325i of the day. Of course, it also cost TWICE as much as the Bimmer or Audi at nearly $86k... in 1994 dollars. 15 years later the car still drives quietly and solidly... not so sure a new CLK cabriolet can boast the same quality levels but I'm not sure many people are willing to pay for it anymore.
