Beijing '08 Preview: Nissan Intima to make production debut?

The Nissan Intima concept that was unveiled during last year's Tokyo Motor Show looked very complete. Now we know why. Spy photos suggest that a production version of the Intima will make its world debut next month at the Beijing Motor Show. As you can see from the above photos, the covered car's side glass and taillamp design definitely seem to mimic those of the Intima show car. As part of the transformation, however, the production ride appears to have lost the smooth trunk-to-bumper transition that the concept displayed, instead wearing a posterior that protrudes a little more and features traditional exhaust outlets. Assuming this all comes to pass, the Intima should be Nissan's flagship sedan in China. More next month when things get underway in Beijing. Gallery: Nissan Intima concept

I think that this IS the new Maxima for the people that liked the Maxima for it's sleek look. With this, Nissan introduces two larger cars, one for the for the people that like the stlying of the actual maxima and one for the people that that want an upgrade of the current maxima.

Is this a FF-R or FM car?
If it's FF-R, I agree that this is probably the direction Nissan should've taken the Maxima in. I didn't think it was possible to have funkier detailing than the previous Max, but Nissan proved me wrong.

I LOVE this concept in all regards, but especially the swoopy character line that wraps around and blends into the rear so artfully.....I have hoped from the outset that it was destined for production, though had thought it would be the new Maxima vs. a new name plate. Will be exciting to see the unveiling!

Damn, I was really hoping the Intima was going to be the new Infiniti Q45.

I think that's actually the new Accord. If not it sure looks like it.

I hope the trippy headlights see production...I think this car would make a great new Q 45.

taking too many risks.. this looks like a miss in design. aston martin doesn't want to be associated with this! (tail lights)

Lots of visual drama, but no real character. Nothing special about the proportions, the rear resembles a Benz CLS, the front a Camry, and the rear 3/4 window an Accord, where it was derived from a BMW. In short, typically Japanese. They can sure engineer them brilliantly, but with few exceptions can't seem to design a car with much flair. Still, it's better than the new Maxima.

Unfortunately, us in Australia will probably get this instead of your "4DSC" Maxima. We get the current Teana which, although when released looked rather striking and had a great interior, it was never dynamic, it's now dated and it doesn't sell to well. Bear in mind that we don't get the awesome Altima and Nissan Australia actually has no mid-size entry (it's all screwed up down here with Nissan)
Give me the 4DSC Maxima over the Intima any day. The Intima will be another Japanese Buick whereas the 4DSC Maxima will probably actually, y'know, handle.
