Spy Shots: 2008 Chrysler Town and Country

Over at WorldCarFans are a couple of spy shots in which a heavily camo’d 2008 Chrysler Town and Country (or Dodge Caravan) has been caught behind the fences. While the spy shots themselves don’t reveal much about what we’ll see next January when both the redesigned Chrysler T&C and Dodge Caravan are unveiled at the Detroit auto show, the accompanying artist’s rendering is intriguing. Actually, it’s eerily familiar.
More after the jump...

While we’re guessing it didn’t take that long to photoshop pieces and parts of the Chrysler 300C and Dodge
Magnum onto a minivan, the end result is interesting to say the least, and we’re betting you guys will either
love it or hate it.
Is the world ready for a 300C minivan? We bet the world will warm up right quick to such a beast of burden if it’s got a HEMI V6 and AWD. If the new Town and Country looks like anything like this pug-nosed, no-nonsense family hauler, Chrysler will likely kick start the minvan market just like it did the RWD sedan market with the 300C.

If Chrysler slaps the 300 face onto their mini-van than they will bastardize the impact the 300 has had on the American sedan market.
Plus I'd rather see what VW will due with it, rather than Chyrsler and Dodge.

Why do the photos call it the "Chrysler Voyager" instead of the "Town and Country," like autoblog? Is the Voyager name being brought back from Plymouth's graveyard as an update of the Town and Country name, or is this a Canadian name thing?
P.S. I could be wrong, but I just don't know if the "Baby-Bently of mini-vans" approach would work.

Ha! The rendering looks like a caricature of a 300C-based minivan. Which, in a way, is what it is.
I agree with emulous...slapping that nose on a minivan will kill the cachet of the sedan. And there's really no reason to think that Chrysler will do this; the 300C's nose has remained unique, and other new Chrysler products don't emulate it.

my god is that horribly ugly.

Umm, the proportions of that rendering are totally off, compare it side by side to the spy shots - true it is heavily camo-ed, but the silhouette is completely wrong: look at the windows! Yeah, see, I can photoshop the front of a 300 onto a minivan too. I'm not impressed.

I think that it would sell well, but I'm not sure that it would still have the normal benefits of a minivan over an SUV (i.e. - better gas mileage, better/more quiet ride).

I don't wanna hear anything else about how GM is always the one who runs out of ideas; this one kills me from laughing so much.

Hmm, that illustration is nothing more than a Chrysler 300 Touring with the roof raised.

I think it looks pretty good. My questions are, will it kill the aerodynamics and reduce gas mileage? How will it do on pedestrian crash tests compared to the old aerodynamic design?
They are doing "Dodge Ram" grills all over the place at Dodge (the new Caliber, for example); I suppose it makes sense to have the the 300C grills all over the place at Chrysler. At least both are better than the chrome venetian blinds popping up at Ford (Fusion, then Five Hundred, etc.)

Either the artist is an idiot, or Chrysler's designers are the idiots. This "thing" (that's all I know to call it) looks like pieces of a 300C (front end) and a Durango (back end) were slapped together with some odd parts in the middle. I mean, it looks like a strange mutation of the 300C, the Durango, and the Magnum. Hey, it's the redesinged minivan from Chrysler! The MagnuDurango Town & Country. Man, that was exhausting.

In most markets outside of the US, the Chrysler minivan has usually been named Chrysler Voyager.

This is an adaptation of a Dodge Caravan PhotoShop that has been floating around for about a year on AutoWeek and other boards. As mentioned by #5 (the poster, not the robot), the proportions are different with the spyshot having a longer nose and more sweptback headlights. Of course, it's possible that the T&C may get a 300 inspired nose, since rumors are that the 300 itself is getting a "nose job" next year. It's supposedly getting Chrysler's version of the aftermarket mesh grille that is so popular.

Simply dreadful. Chrysler singlehandedly made GM's plethora of CSV's look almost normal.
Toyota and Honda thank DCX for doing what they couldn't do - lure buyers to ugly Japanese minivans when the only thing they have going for them is "perception" of superiority.
Look out DCX - Hyundai and Kia are rolling out minivans that will steal your sales.

Wow, is this an attempt to throw the minivan world on it's arse or what? I think it looks cool, but you know it won't look quite like this, as they will tone it down some. Call it "mini me 300c"

yeah, that's nowhere NEAR as good as mine:

at least, not in my opinion ;)
the spy photos, however, don't appear to portray a van that has the same chopped and channeled look as eitehr the magnum, 300C, or these photoshopped images. I therefore present my version 2 for comparison:

didn't have as much time this time, but perhaps this is really it?

I've seen the new DCX vans in person and this artist is off his rocker! This rendering looks nothing like the vehicles I was shown. Please pay no attention to this picture. The new T&C looks nothing like a 300.
And why are all you die-hard car guys so concerned with the way a minivan looks? Weird!
