Beyond Special
Owning a Ferrari is special in itself; not many people will ever be able to say that in their lifetime. Because Ferrari recognizes its power as a special brand, it sometimes creates even more desirable models beyond the standard ones. These more special cars usually take inspiration from the past and are sold in limited numbers.
One of the more recent limited-run Ferrari cars is the SP3, built and sold back in 2025 under the “Icona” (Icon) series. These cars have since become ultra-rare and highly sought after, as shown by a recent auction sale.

$18.5 Million SP3
A very unique SP3 has just sold for an astonishing $18.5 million during the Broad Arrow auction held in Las Vegas. This specific car was Chassis no. 314846 and belonged to a known collector through the Ferrari of Long Island, New York dealership. Only 600 SP3s were ever built, and this is 1 of them, with just 81 miles on the odometer. In terms of design, the SP3 is truly an homage, featuring the patented Ferrari horizontal slats we’ve seen on older cars, but honoring the race cars it’s based on.
The SP3 is already special, but this particular car adds its own twist to stand out even more. It’s finished in a paint palette called Verde Francesca, a lighter shade of green; that option alone costs an additional $42,185. In contrast, the hardtop, lower bodywork trims, splitter, side sills, and trunk lid are painted in glossy carbon fiber. Another key exterior detail that brightens the SP3’s look is the silver-finished rims paired with gloss black brake calipers.

Storied Inspiration
Inside, the SP3 features a two-tone look: some panels use Nero Alcantara upholstery, while the doors and seats feature what Ferrari calls Mustard Aunde Jeans. Behind the driver is the car’s beating heart, a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12, producing 829 hp, which is the most powerful road-going engine ever and was derived from the 812 Competizione race car. As expensive as $18 million is, back in 2025 another SP3 sold for much more, at $26 million as the one-of-one 600th example of the limited series.
The SP3’s value and iconic status are also cemented by the inspiration behind the project. It was conceived as “a rolling tribute to one of the marque’s most triumphant afternoons.” In February 1967, Ferrari swept the 24 Hours of Daytona by finishing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The cars that achieved it, the 330 P3/P4 and 412P, became the spiritual blueprints for the SP3.
