Fiat launched the Topolino micro EV earlier in 2026, and it caught our attention with its adorable styling and $13,995 starting price. That’s roughly half the price of a Chevrolet Bolt, but it came with a catch: The Topolino wasn’t street-legal, limiting the charming EV’s usability. However, Fiat promised a low-speed vehicle (LSV) conversion kit for the Topolino later in 2026, and it’s now delivered on that promise with the 2027 model. At the same time, the 2027 Fiat Topolino also introduces a new open-air body style, fresh colors, and a new digital gauge cluster. This should boost already impressive sales.

The LSV kit will allow current owners of the Topolino to convert their models to street-legal versions at no charge. All new shipments of the 2027 Topolino will have the kit installed. This doesn’t make the Topolino suitable for all use cases, as the top speed with the LSV kit is just 25 mph. Even so, it expands the little Fiat’s usefulness beyond private roads or corporate campuses, but don’t expect to be able to take it out on the highway.

Along with the newly standard LSV kit, the Topolino Open Air also arrives for 2027. This variant has a soft-top rollback roof, giving the small cabin an airier feel. Two new colors—Corallo Orange and Luna Greige—have been added, as has a new full-color digital cluster.

“Topolino represents an exciting new chapter for Fiat in North America, bringing the brand’s signature Italian style and la dolce vita lifestyle into the emerging micromobility space,” said Andrew Waterhouse, head of Fiat North America. “The response from customers has exceeded our expectations, with many of our Fiat dealers quickly selling through their initial allocations and proving there’s real demand for a vehicle that delivers simple, joyful mobility.”

While Fiat claims an enthusiastic response to the Topolino, it has not specified exactly how many units of the EV have been sold yet.

Yacht-Inspired Topolino Unveiled In Florida

To coincide with the announcement of the 2027 Topolino, Fiat also revealed a special Topolino designed in collaboration with Sanlorenzo, a top Italian yacht maker. The unveiling was held at the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show, and this special model comes with an interior inspired by the yacht maker’s use of natural materials and high-end textiles. These have been applied to the Topolino’s dashboard, seats, and sunroof. It also comes with nautical-grade wood flooring, custom seat belts, and natural leather accents. The wood flooring draws inspiration from Sanlorenzo’s premium yachts.

Fiat Needs A U.S. Success

Stellantis

Fiat is the slowest-selling Stellantis brand in the United States. Through the first three quarters of 2026, it has sold a mere 291 vehicles in this market, including 211 units of the 500e and just 73 of the discontinued 500X crossover. Topolino sales are not reported with the brand’s regular passenger vehicles.

Fiat has the vehicles to succeed in America, but they’re simply not offered here. For starters, it needs a competitive crossover, such as the Pulse that’s already sold in Latin America. The Fiat Grande Panda hatchback is another modern, fun car that could potentially draw some buyers away from models like the Nissan Kicks or Kia Rio. However, it would need more power to meet American expectations.

Strong demand for the Topolino suggests that if Fiat leans into its comfort zone—producing small, efficient, and highly affordable vehicles—it could once again enjoy a more prominent position in this market.
