We’re back from Paris, and already missing the delicious bread. Cravings aside, we’ve had a chance to reflect on last week’s
Paris Motor Show and determine our favorite debuts. It wasn’t easy, and almost every one of our voters had a pick that didn’t make the list. The two closest made honorable mention, the rest you can find in our
wrap-up post or
mega list of galleries. And without further ado, here is the top five.

5th Place –

RENAULT TREZOR CONCEPT

GREG MIGLIORE: I love that the French automakers always make design statements at their home auto show. The Trezor does that and hints at an autonomous, electric future.

DAVID GLUCKMAN: This was the only all-out concept at the show. Anything that has no grounding in reality and exists simply to look cool gets my vote. Also, I will forever refer to it as the Trent Reznor.

JOEL PATEL: Modern cars aren’t really pretty anymore, but this concept certainly is. Plus it reminds me of something Batman would drive.

4th Place –

FERRARI GTC4 LUSSO T

REESE COUNTS: I can’t imagine an increase in torque and the removal of the trick AWD system can hurt anything.

BRANDON TURKUS: I feel like there’s always been a philosophical divide between Ferrari’s V8 and V12 models. This car tears it down, taking the style of Ferrari’s big GT and replacing the big V12 and complicated all-wheel-drive system for rear-wheel drive and a V8. Frankly, this car is long overdue.

3rd Place –

2017 AUDI RS3

%Slideshow-436226%

BRANDON TURKUS: I mean, look at it. Everyone’s all upset that Volkswagen canned its 400-horsepower Golf R400, but the reality is there’s a five-cylinder version of that car staring us in the face.

JEREMY KORZNIEWSKI: This car is a great size for an everyday runabout, and 400-hp plus AWD makes me happy. Real-world performance ought to be excellent.

REESE COUNTS:

Step 1: turbocharged inline-five

Step 2: ?

Step 3: profit

2nd Place –

VOLKSWAGEN I.D. CONCEPT

%Slideshow-436240%

GREG MIGLIORE: VW did an excellent job of showing its own electric capability, and the long-term play with autonomous tech demonstrates vision.

JEREMY KORZENIEWSKI: A promising look into VW’s anti-TDI future. I’d love to see some of its concepty features make it into production – sliding doors! – and I’ll award plenty of future points if they do.

JOEL STOCKSDALE: It’s emblematic of VW’s shift from diesel to electric. If it delivers on range and price, it will be the biggest advance in affordable electric car tech.

1st Place –

HONDA CIVIC TYPE R

%Slideshow-435219%

JOEL STOCKSDALE: It looks awesome, and triple tailpipes are even more awesome. And it’s all coming here.

DAVID GLUCKMAN: Despite the fact that it looks almost identical to a Subaru WRX (
contrary to what Joel thinks), this is the only Honda I’ve been excited about for a long, long time. So now we just have to wait a little longer.

REESE COUNTS: This thing better be amazing, because there’s no stopping this hype train. Personally, I think the looks are a little over the top.

BRANDON TURKUS: It’s about damn time.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

LEXUS UX CONCEPT

%SlideshowThumbs-436250%

DAVID GLUCKMAN: Because it’s crazy looking.

MERCEDES-BENZ GENERATION EQ

%SlideshowThumbs-436171%

GREG MIGLIORE: This concept will spawn an electric SUV in the near future, which I think is exactly what the global market wants. Mercedes looks prescient with the EQ.
