SUV goes for a dip in Hawai'i

Pat Campanella was giving his wife Mimi a driving lesson when she overcompensated during a traffic maneuver and drove their 2001 Toyota Highlander into a backyard pool. Pat and Mimi had to wait for the car to fill with water in order to escape, a technique they recalled from watching a movie where a car falls into some body of water, as interior/exterior pressure must equalize before any doors can be opened. No one was injured, and it took a tow truck equipped with a crane to extract the SUV from the pool, at a cost of between $2,500 and $5,000. Doctors recommended that Mimi get back on the road ASAP, in order to help overcome the trauma of the accident.
