Safety groups sue NHTSA to eliminate regional recalls

There have been a few significant recalls in recent history that have been limited to particular geographic regions of the U.S., especially those related to the effects of corrosion here in the Midwest and Northeast areas of the country. Public Citizen (cue the booing-and-hissing) and the Center for Public Safety are suing to reverse a 1998 ruling that allowed manufacturers to conduct such regional recalls. Considering how easy it is to end up with a used car from a completely different area of the country, I personally think that any particular recall should indeed be nationwide in scope if they are to be issued at all.
