More useful technology we don’t get in the U.S. …
Renault today rolled out its new diesel powerplants, designed to comply with the tighter EU emissions standards that
come into effect January 1. The new diesels reduce emissions of carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons, nitrogen
oxides, and diesel soot.
The engines feature a variety of new or improved technologies, including a variable-nozzle turbocharger, controlled
exhaust gas recirculation, a high-pressure common rail injection system, high-speed piezo-electric injectors (capable
of five injections per cycle), an optimized four-valve combustion chamber design, and an automatically regenerating
particulate filter.
Top of the line is the 175 bhp, 2-liter dCi engine (pictured), which is coupled to a new six-speed, high-torque manual
transmission.
