Reuters has published
an excellent primer on biodiesel and ethanol.
Collectively called ‘biofuel’, the two are the
most well-known alternative fuel sources for vehicles.
Did you know, for example, that the U.S. is the
second largest maker of biodiesel? Brazil, using its massive crops of sugarcane, is the largest producer. The South
American country already mixes twenty-five percent ethanol with its gasoline and is seeking more markets to export its
surplus.
The Philippine government is supporting efforts for biofuel development using coconut oil.
Ethanol is currently mixed with gasoline to reduce emissions.
