A Memphis, Tenn. court refused a DamilerChrysler’s
motion to reverse a $48.8 million punitive jury award in the death of a 38 year-old woman in a crash
involving a Dodge Caravan yesterday.

In 2002, Vickie Mohr was driving a 2000 Dodge Caravan when she was hit almost head-on by a Jeep
Cherokee. Mohr’s family asserted that the Caravan’s design left passengers vulnerable to offset collisions
(accidents in which the vehicle’s front end is hit only partially). In addition to the $48.8 million punitive jury
ruling, the judge in the case also awarded Mohr’s family and the family of her mother, who was also killed in the
accident, a total of $58.3 million.
