More than 100 police departments across the country are using electronically controlled vehicles to lure car thieves
in and then once they drive off shut them down. After a thief has hot-wired the bait car and drives off, officers
remotely turn the engine off, lock the doors and then nab the crook. This is a new tactic in trying to prevent a
prevalent and costly crime. The cars use satellite tracking equipment and hidden cameras to help prosecute the
offenders. Quote of the article: “We had one guy who stole a car to go to court,” he says. “He was stopped right
outside City Hall. We just had to take him around the block to the other side of the building to the jail
entrance.”
