In an interesting bit of legislation the California state senate is going to require the
DMV to send out recall notices with the annual vehicle registration notices. This seems like a simple way for the
government to get involved in vehicle safety. It also overcomes the problem of getting recall notices to second and
third owners of vehicles. Of course one legislator argued this is “too much information” for drivers. That sounded
oxymoronic, but the argument that the DMV can’t usually get through a line in a timely manner let alone sending vital
information held a bit more water. We think it’s a pretty good idea and since you could easily automate the notices it
shouldn’t be that hard to implement.
