Bob Lutz, when asked to explain the impact of the Solstice on the Pontiac brand, reached back to his past life and
compared Pontiac’s new roadster to the Dodge Viper. I’d tend to disagree with him on this point, but I’m not the one
who’s developed a pair of hot roadsters as part of larger turnaround plans. One thing I can agree with him on is that
GM needs to be taking “intelligent” risks, as it’s clear that this is the only way to carve out market share nowadays.
If Lutz gets his way, expect to see risk-taking flagship models for each of GM’s brands, including some sort of
ultra-luxury sedan for Cadillac. Any chance that a flagship might be a nice midsize sedan with a diesel? Probably not,
but I can always dream.
