Overview
The 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross is a subcompact crossover SUV built on the TNGA-C platform, slotting in between the RAV4 and Corolla Sedan. With Toyota reliability and efficiency, it targets small families and urban professionals who value low cost of ownership over excitement. Gas models have a 169-hp 2.0L engine with FWD or AWD, while hybrids add electric assistance, 196 hp, AWD, and 42-mpg combined fuel economy. It seats five, and the TSS 3.0 driver-assistance suite with automatic braking, road-sign recognition, and blind-spot monitoring is standard.

What’s New for 2026
The 2026 Corolla Cross is facelifted with a chunkier fascia, while the hybrid gets a body-color grille. Cavalry Blue is available for the gas LE/XLE and hybrid SE/XSE trims, and the XLE and XSE gain new 18-inch wheels. Hybrids gain access to two-tone paint finishes with a black roof.
Inside, the redesigned center console has more storage space, and the XLE gets a bigger 7.0-inch cluster display. AWD trims gain as standard the Cold Weather package with a heated steering wheel and seats, and XLE trims get access to a new Portobello cabin color and a 10.5-inch touchscreen. LE and XLE trims gain rear-seat USB-C ports and a wireless charger.
Exterior
The Corolla Cross projects understated practicality, with functional lines, free from polarizing styling cues. Gas models have a distinctive fascia with a chunky grille, and the hybrids get a tech-focused, body-color grille. The subcompact SUV silhouette has black plastic body cladding, and the standard wheels measure 17 inches, but 18-inchers appear on XLE and XSE trims.
Two-tone paint jobs are offered on some trims, but the aesthetic prioritizes conservatism over style; this should ensure wider appeal and keep the shape fresher for longer. The philosophy aligns with the target buyer, who is more interested in resale value and practicality than flash and frills.

Interior
The cabin focuses on simplicity and easy operation, not luxury. Hard plastics dominate the lower areas, but most scratch-prone piano-black plastics are now gone, while soft-touch materials appear on higher trims. The dashboard has a user-friendly layout requiring minimal familiarization. An 8-inch touchscreen is standard (10.5 inches on top trims), including wireless smartphone integration. The digital gauge cluster measures seven inches on base and 12.3 inches on top trims.
The comfortable, supportive seats are covered in black cloth, or SofTex leatherette on higher trims, which also gain seat heating, a power driver’s seat, and dual-zone climate control. Rear seats split and fold 60/40 and accommodate adults on shorter trips, with cupholders and USB-C ports all around. JBL audio is optional on top trims. The unpretentious and user-friendly cabin is in line with typical buyer expectations.

Price Range and Best Value Trim
| Trim Category | Model | Price (excluding destination) |
| Base trim | L (FWD) | $24,935 |
| Top trim | Hybrid XSE (AWD) | $33,330 |
| Best value trim | XLE (FWD) | $29,860 |
The Toyota Corolla Cross’ price list starts below $25K, with the XLE offering top value at $30K with 18-inch wheels, heated seats, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, more driver assists, and a 10.5-inch touchscreen. The hybrid adds nearly $5K, so the SE with some extras would make the most sense.
2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Specs Overview
The Corolla Cross comes in three powertrain configurations, including gas, hybrid, and AWD.
Powertrain Options
| Engine | Horsepower | Torque | Transmission | Drivetrain |
| 2.0L I-4 (Gas) | 169 hp | 151 lb-ft | CVT | FWD or AWD |
| 2.0L I-4 + Electric Motors (Hybrid) | 196 hp (combined) | NA | e-CVT | AWD (standard) |
The base engine is a naturally aspirated 169-hp 2.0L four-cylinder paired to a CVT automatic with a physical first gear for improved launch response, but it needs revs to get going. AWD is available for $1,300. The hybrids use an Atkinson-cycle 2.0L engine and three electric motors for a system output of 196 hp, mated to AWD via an eCVT automatic.
Performance and 0-60 MPH
The gas models are slow and need 9.2-9.6 seconds to reach 60 mph with AWD; FWD models are quicker at 8.4-8.9 seconds, depending on the trim and weight. The hybrids are a lot quicker, slashing the sprint to 7.3-7.4 seconds. The ride is comfortable, but the CVT gets buzzy under duress. The hybrids feel much swifter for overtaking and passing, and are far nicer to drive than the gas models.

Fuel Economy (MPG)
Fuel economy is the car’s strong suit, and gas models’ EPA estimates are 31/33/32 mpg city/highway/combined with FWD, dropping to 29/31/30 mpg with AWD. The AWD hybrids get 46/39/42 mpg for a range of up to 445 miles combined on a 13.2-gallon tank.
AWD/FWD System Overview
Gas models are FWD, with AWD a $1,300 option. The hybrids are AWD, and an electric motor drives the rear axle, engaging automatically when grip is lost. It’s just meant for slippery roads, not for going off-road, though the 8-inch ground clearance is suitable for gravel driving.
Dimensions
The Corolla Cross’ practical but compact dimensions are firmly in the subcompact category, at seven inches shorter than the RAV4. It provides the somewhat elevated seating position that many drivers like, without the bulk of a typical SUV.
| Dimension | Measurement |
| Length | 176.1-176.8 inches |
| Width | 71.9 inches |
| Height | 64.8 inches |
| Wheelbase | 103.9 inches |
Interior Space (Front and Rear)
| Row | Headroom | Legroom | Shoulder Room |
| First Row | 38.6-39.5 inches | 42.9 inches | 52.7 inches |
| Second Row | 39.1 inches | 32 inches | 52.4 inches |
Rear-seat legroom is limited, but adults will be fine on shorter trips. Four is the maximum practical number, and a fifth passenger will be cramped.
Cargo Space
FWD models offer 24 cu-ft of cargo space behind the second row, dropping to 21.5 cu-ft on AWD models. With the rear seats folded, these numbers increase to 46.9 and 44 cu-ft, respectively. A power liftgate is optional on the XLE.
Ground Clearance
With 8.0-8.1 inches of ground clearance, the Corolla Cross can navigate rutted gravel, snow, and light trail driving. Sitting higher than most car-based crossovers makes it suitable for more arduous tasks, such as accessing beachfront campsites or trailheads. Combined with AWD, it’s a surprisingly capable all-weather tool, though it’s by no means an off-roader.
Warranty
| Coverage Type | Duration |
| Basic | 3 years / 36,000 miles |
| Powertrain | 5 years / 60,000 miles |
| Hybrid Components | 8 years / 100,000 miles |
| Hybrid Battery | 10 years / 150,000 miles |
| Complimentary Maintenance | 2 years / 25,000 miles |
| Rust-Through | 5 years / Unlimited miles |
| Roadside Assistance | 3 years / 36,000 miles |
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Exceptional hybrid fuel economy
- Toyota reliability and durability
- Two years of complimentary maintenance
- Compact dimensions with substantial cargo space
- Standard TSS 3.0 safety system
Cons:
- Gas models underpowered
- Cabin dominated by hard plastics
- Rear legroom cramped for adults
- Less cargo capacity than Honda HR-V and Subaru Crosstrek
- Styling lacks excitement
Verdict
The Toyota Corolla Cross is efficient, sensible, and dependable – ideal for buyers who prioritize low ownership costs and reliability over excitement. The hybrid’s superior performance and 42-mpg economy make it far nicer, but it comes at a $5K cost. The gas XLE offers enough toys, but you have to add options to the hybrid SE, like the bigger touchscreen and heated front seats, to get it close to it, which adds over $1K to the price.
The compact dimensions make the Corolla Cross easy to handle, cargo space is good for the class, and you sit a bit higher for a better view, but the driving experience is forgettable. Instead, you’ll prefer it for its baked-in Toyota efficiency, reliability, resale value, and low cost of ownership, with two years of complimentary maintenance thrown in to sweeten the deal.
