Overview
The 2026 Ram 1500 full-size pickup truck is still one of the most capable work trucks in its class, and well ahead in interior ambience and ride refinement, so it excels in multiple roles. An impressive range of powertrain options is just the start, from a base mild-hybrid naturally aspirated V6 to a duo of twin-turbo straight sixes with up to 540 hp. And now the Hemi V8 returns for the 2026 1500 as well. And that’s just the gas powertrains; there is also a Ramcharger plug-in hybrid, which we review separately.
The Ram 1500 offers a breadth of talent in the range, from true workhorses to multiple cab options and tech- and luxury-laden top trims, catering to diverse buyer needs. It’s ideal for buyers who want strong towing capability and payload numbers in a truck, but don’t want to sacrifice comfort and technology in daily commuting or family transportation.
What’s New for 2026?
After a one-year hiatus, the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 eTorque mild-hybrid powertrain returns to the 2026 1500 lineup as a direct result of customer demand. It develops 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, and will be offered in the Tradesman, Express, Warlock, Big Horn/Lone Star, and Laramie for an additional $1,200 over the Pentastar V6, but it’s free on Limited and Longhorn trims. Hemi V8 availability will apparently be expanded to the Rebel trim in due course. The other engine options remain, including the base 3.6L Pentastar V6 and the new Hurricane twin-turbo inline six that debuted last year in two outputs.
Also back is the 1500 Express trim, a low-cost model, but offers unique looks, with black headlight bezels and a dark gray interior. The Black Express is also new, and is essentially a $995 blacked-out styling package for the Express to bring striking looks to the base of the range, including black badging, black 20-inch wheels, and a Sport hood. Inside, it features black cloth bucket seats. It will be available only for the Quad Cab and Crew Cab body styles. Several new paint colors also arrive, including Silver Zynith and Molten Red Pearl-Coat, while Serrano-Green Metallic will arrive later in the model year.
In an attempt to address the Ram 1500’s lower-than-average reliability reputation, Ram is extending the powertrain warranty on the truck to a market-leading ten years / 100,000 miles for all 2026 powertrains.
Exterior
The 1500’s exterior design is everything a big truck should be, projecting not only strength, but also sophistication through its bold styling cues. The signature Ram crosshair grille dominates the frontal aspect, with grille finishes varying by trim, from smart chrome to fully blacked-out looks on trims such as the Express Black and Warlock. LED headlights are standard, with higher trims gaining distinctive styling elements and cornering lights.
The fenders flare muscularly to accommodate wheels of up to 22 inches in size, and there is enough sculpting to break up the slab sides, plus a body-length character line. Available RamBox storage makes use of the bed sides to provide lockable and weatherproof compartments, and the looks can be jazzed up with chrome packages on trims like the Laramie and Longhorn. The Rebel has more performance-oriented aesthetics, with an aggressive stance, skid plates, and unique bumpers.

Interior
The Ram’s cabin is without a doubt still the class benchmark for luxury and refinement, and the dashboard architecture has a driver-focused layout with an 8.4-inch touchscreen on base trims and a large 12-inch unit on mid-range trims. Available on most mid-range trims is the Tungsten’s massive standard 14.5-inch display. Even base trims feature solid construction and high-quality materials, but the upper trims get truly premium finishes, including genuine wood, leather, and premium stitching that would suit a luxury SUV.
Both front and rear seats are comfortable, with limo-like stretch-out space in the back of the Crew Cab. Among the standard and optional features, depending on trim, are heated and ventilated front seats (with massaging on the flagship), acoustic glass, and active noise cancellation. Plenty of smart storage solutions include a big center console and many other hidey-holes.

2026 Ram 1500 Specs Overview
Let’s look at the technical information that defines the Ram 1500’s performance characteristics and capability metrics. There are five engine variations, including the naturally aspirated Pentastar V6, the twin-turbo Hurricane straight six in two outputs, the 5.7L Hemi V8, and the Pentastar-based Ramcharger PHEV.
Powertrain Options
| Engine | Horsepower | Torque | Transmission | Drivetrain |
| 3.0L Hurricane I6 Twin-Turbo | 420 hp | 469 lb-ft | 8-speed automatic | RWD / 4WD |
| 3.0L Hurricane I6 High-Output | 540 hp | 521 lb-ft | 8-speed automatic | 4WD |
| 5.7L HEMI V8 (eTorque) | 395 hp | 410 lb-ft | 8-speed automatic | RWD / 4WD |
| 3.6L Pentastar V6 PHEV (Ramcharger) | 663 hp (combined) | 615 lb-ft (combined) | e-AWD | AWD |
| 3.6L Pentastar V6 with eTorque | 305 hp | 269 lb-ft | 8-speed automatic | RWD / 4WD |
Performance and 0–60 MPH
The big news is the potent twin-turbo Hurricane inline six-cylinder engine, and even the 420-hp SST version is rapid, blasting the big truck to 60 mph in anything from 4.8 to 5.4 seconds, depending on the trim, drivetrain, and weight. The HO with 540 hp slashes these times to a sports-car-like 4.2-4.7 seconds. On the other hand, the base Pentastar V6 with 305 hp needs about 8.1 seconds to do the job.
The Hemi V8 has 395 hp and should be good for around 6.0-6.9 seconds, and it offers a meaty V8 soundtrack that puts all the other engines in the shade. The Hurricane-equipped models are truly effortless, overtaking and merging rapidly and pulling huge rigs without breaking a sweat.
Fuel Economy
The Pentastar V6 returns an EPA-verified 20/25/22 mpg city/highway/combined with 2WD and 19/24/21 mpg with 4WD. The 420-hp Hurricane variants return 18/25/21 mpg with 2WD and 18/24/20 mpg with 4WD. The Hemi V8 benefits from the eTorque system and doesn’t embarrass itself completely with a comparatively acceptable 16/20/18 mpg, considering it’s a big NA V8.
The high-output 540-hp Hurricanes with 4WD are the thirstiest at 15/21/17 mpg, but then, they do give you a huge power output to play with. Real-world results typically line up fairly well with the EPA estimates. The Ramcharger PHEV offers 50 miles of electric range and a claimed combined economy of 23 mpg in hybrid mode.
Towing Capacity and Payload
The 1500’s maximum towing capacity tops out at 11,610 pounds with the Hurricane I6 and 4×2 Tradesman Quad Cab configuration. The maximum the Hemi V8 is capable of is 11,320 pounds, and the Pentastar V6 can muster up to 8,130 pounds. The Ramcharger is claimed to be capable of as much as 14,000 pounds. Payload capacity ranges from a worst of 1,390 pounds to a best of to a best of 2,360 pounds, depending on cab style, bed length, engine, and drivetrain configuration.
Dimensions
Here are the basics on the Ram 1500’s exterior dimensions, so you can assess garage compatibility and parking ease compared to other trucks:
| Dimension | Range |
| Length | 228.4 – 241.3 inches |
| Width | 81.2-82.1 inches |
| Height | 75.7-79.6 inches |
| Wheelbase | 140.6 – 153.5 inches |
2026 Ram 1500 Length by Cab and Bed

| Crew Cab, 5-foot 7-inch bed | 232.4 inches |
| Crew Cab, 6-foot 4-inch bed | 241.3 inches |
Ground clearance varies a lot according to trim and intent, starting with 7.7 inches on street-oriented models up to around 10.7 inches for 4WD off-road trims, and as much as 11.8 inches for the RHO. With the optional air suspension, the minimum ground clearance can be as low as 6.1 inches at rest for easy access.
Cargo Bed Space
The 5-foot-7 bed that comes with the Crew Cab is 67.4 inches long, 66.4 inches wide (51 inches between the wheel houses), and 21.4 inches deep, giving a volume of 53.8 cu-ft. The 6-foot-4 bed that can be had with either cab configuration is 76.3 inches long and 21.5 inches deep, with the same width figures, for a volume of 61.3 cu-ft
The cargo bed’s optional RamBox storage is unique in this class, and is an option on Limited and Tunsten trims. These lockable and weatherproof compartments reside within the bed’s sides and are accessible from the outside. Other useful available cargo-related features include LED bed lighting, a spray-in bedliner, adjustable tie-downs, and a multi-function tailgate.
Warranty
Ram provides much more comprehensive warranty coverage for the 2026 1500, offering competitive basic protection in the full-size truck segment, but exceptional powertrain coverage that leads the class.

Verdict
The 2026 Ram 1500 is unmatched in its class when it comes to ride quality and refinement on the move, with the best cabin in the business, blending solid build with luxurious finishes on the top trims – all without losing out on raw capability. There’s a big powertrain selection that caters to every type of buyer except for the one who wants a diesel, but for that, Ram will sell you an economy-focused and innovative Ramcharger PHEV.
Pricing runs a bit higher than some rivals, and reliability ratings have traditionally lagged the class best, but Ram is putting its money where its mouth is, and the market-leading powertrain warranty should do a lot to win back buyers. The Big Horn Quad Cab is arguably the sweet spot in the range, being ideal for contractors and families alike, and you can always upgrade to the Crew Cab body for more rear space.
