Porsche’s Cheapest 2027 Model Now Costs Over $80,000

The 2027 model year brings some changes to the product lineup that makes the cheapest new Porsche rather expensive.

Porsche models have never been cheap, but as little as five years back you could still get an entry-level Boxster or Cayman for around $65,000. Thanks to the discontinuation of these popular two-seater models, rising production costs, increased tariffs, and a shift even further upmarket, the cheapest Porsche you can buy today costs $80,400 before options, taxes and destination charges.

That model is the newly introduced Macan Electric. A bold new compact luxury SUV that takes over from the popular gas-powered Macan range. Unlike some other premium brands, Porsche has an allure and mystique to it that often justifies its elevated pricing, but we wanted to see if the all-new Macan EV, the cheapest model Porsche currently sells, can match up to the brand’s high standards.

The Porsche Macan Electric

The most affordable Porsche currently on sale is the standard rear-wheel-drive Macan Electric. There are still some old stock gas-powered Macans on sale, and the base variant was last listed at $65,400 before taxes, but in terms of new 2027 models, the Macan Electric is the new base model.

Introduced as part of the next generation of Porsche’s best-selling compact SUV, the Macan Electric rides on the advanced Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, and the base model features a substantial 100 kWh battery pack and a single rear-mounted electric motor.

While it marks a departure from the internal-combustion engines of the past, its aggressive styling, and driver-focused digital cabin still make it feel distinctively Porsche.

For the 2027 model year, the Macan Electric lineup consists of five distinct models, the three ‘cheapest’ variants al come in at under $100,000. While the base RWD Macan Electric remains the cheapest, it may not be the best value when compared to its closest stablemates in terms of performance.

With 355 hp on overboost, its 5.4-second 0-60mph time is competent rather than impressive in today’s mentally fast EVs. The Macan 4 Electric is $3,700 pricier but adds a second motor to the front axle for all-wheel drive which pushes the peak power figure up to 402 hp and the 0-60 mph time down to 4.9-seconds.

The $89,900 Macan 4S Electric delivers the kind of gut-wrenching blast from a standstill that you’d expect from a 509-hp sporty SUV and still manages close to 300 miles on a charge from the same sized battery pack as the base model.

But performance aside, every Macan still turns, brakes and rides like you’d expect from a Porsche, so which one makes the best sense when considering the spec levels?

Which Porsche Macan Electric Trim is The Best Buy?

Most base trims are designed to get you to pay a bit extra for a better-specced variant, but the only difference between the base Macan and the Macan 4 is the extra electric motor on the front axle. This provides an extra 47-hp and enhanced traction from the AWD system. Think of it as a $3,700 option, as practically every other feature is identical between the two.

Unlike most Porsche models of old, the base model is actually surprisingly well-equipped. It features Porsche’s latest infotainment system, a spacious cabin with a panoramic sunroof, and you get adaptive cruise control, Park assist with surround view, lane change assist, and adaptive air suspension. LED headlights, 20-inch wheels, a 10-speaker audio system and 8-way comfort seats in front are standard, too.

The Macan 4S Electric comes in at $9,600 more than the base RWD model, and you get a 109-hp power boost, AWD, and unique 20-inch Macan S wheels as well as Surround View with Active Parking Support for the extra outlay.

All three of these 2027 Macan Electric models can be optioned up to ridiculous levels, but we wouldn’t add much more than the $4,120 Premium Package (14-way Power Seats, Bose Sound system, LED-Matrix Headlights, Ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and 4-zone climate control). A unique exterior paint color and one of the 12 interior leather choices should round off the build nicely.

Internal Alternatives: The Porsche Cayenne

Buyers who aren’t ready to make the jump to battery power have the interesting option of moving up to the mid-size Cayenne SUV. For 2027, the Cayenne SUV starts at $89,900, exactly the same as the potent Macan S Electric.

The gas-powered Cayenne has been around since 2017, but it has undergone several revisions to the point where the 2027 model looks like a completely different model inside and out.

The Macan is undoubtedly the faster vehicle, but the Cayenne is no slouch, still outhandles any direct rival, and offers more interior space for the same money. It comes relatively well specced, but you’ll have to pay extra for air suspension, and adaptive cruise control, although soft close doors, an automatic tailgate with gesture control and Matrix Design LED Headlights are all standard.

Both the Macan EV and Cayenne can be optioned up to well over $110,000 without trying very hard, at which point, if you prefer the EV route, then the Cayenne Electric range is worth a look as it starts at $109,000.

Porsche

In terms of whether the cheapest new Porsche currently on sale is worth it, then that depends on whether an EV suits your driving needs, and whether the relatively modest performance of the base model is enough.

For that reason, the 402-hp Porsche Macan 4 Electric may be worth the extra outlay, but it’s also worth remembering that you will need to account for a few extra options which can bring the price of a lightly specced Macan 4 Electric to over $90,000 once you factor in taxes and destination charges. The return of the Boxster and Cayman in EV form may bring the entry-level pricing down a little further, but the days of the ‘affordable’ Porsche are long gone.
