Overview

The 2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee/Grand Cherokee L midsize SUV continues a nameplate that’s been around since 1992. It comes in regular and 3-row L versions, and last year saw the arrival of a 324-horsepower Hurricane 4 Turbo engine, though the 293-hp NA V6 is still available. It has proper off-road ability, especially the new Trailhawk. It can tow up to 6,200 pounds and offers three 4WD systems to choose from, so it’s the ideal do-anything SUV in this segment.

What’s New for 2027

The 2027 Grand Cherokee gains Overland and Trailhawk trims. The luxurious Overland (below left) has unique styling elements, 21-inch alloys, Nappa leather, four heated seats, ventilated front seats, Quadra-Trac II 4WD, Quadra-Lift air suspension, and more.

The Trailhawk (below right) comes with the Hurricane 4 Turbo engine, Quadra-Trac II, a 2-speed transfer case, air suspension, a rear LS diff, six skid plates, a TrailCam off-road camera, 30.5-inch all-terrain tires, and more. The 4xe PHEV powertrain is no longer available.

Exterior

The Grand Cherokee features the iconic 7-slot Jeep grille, sharp angles, and an upright stance. LED front and rear lighting is standard, but detailing and accents vary by trim. Wheels range in size from 18 to 21 inches. The L is 10.4 inches longer, with a wheelbase 5.0 inches longer to accommodate the third row.

Interior

The Grand Cherokee feels premium, especially in the sumptuous Overland with its Nappa leather and wood. You get a space-saving rotary gear selector, cloth upholstery, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, navigation, and wireless phone integration. Higher trims add heated and ventilated seats, leatherette or leather, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen. The second row is spacious, but the third row in the L model is more suited to children.

Price Range and Best Value Trim

Trim LevelPrice
Base trim: Laredo RWD~$39,520
Top trim: Summit Reserve 4WD~$61,495
Best value trim: Limited 4WD~$46,960

The 2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s price should still kick off below $40K. The Limited 4WD is good value, with features like a heated 2nd row, Alpine audio, and access to the turbo-four engine.

Performance and 0-60 MPH

The performance of the naturally aspirated V6 is adequate, and it takes around 7.3-7.4 seconds to reach 60 MPH. The turbo-four is swifter, with lots of mid-range torque, and does the job in about 6.5-7.2 seconds, depending on the trim.

Fuel Economy (MPG)

We expect the 2027 model’s EPA figures to be unchanged. The 2026 Grand Cherokee achieved between 18/25/21 MPG city/highway/combined and 19/26/22 MPG with the V6. The 2.0-liter turbo-four typically ranges from 20/25/22 MPG to 21/27/23 MPG, though the Trailhawk will be worse on its all-terrain tires.

4WD System Overview

The Quadra-Trac I full-time AWD distributes torque according to grip requirements automatically. Quadra-Trac II adds a 2-speed transfer case and multi-mode Selec-Terrain modes. Quadra-Drive II also has electronic front and rear LS diffs.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Torquey turbocharged I4 engine
  • Capable off-road, especially the Trailhawk
  • Upscale cabin on higher trims
  • 6,200-pound towing capacity
  • 3-row L is family-friendly

Cons:

  • V6 engine’s mediocre gas mileage
  • 4WD not standard on lower trims
  • Price increases quickly on the upper trims
  • The L’s third row is tight for adults

Verdict

The 2027 Grand Cherokee is one of America’s favorite midsize SUVs, and the new Overland and Trailhawk trims provide even more variety. Two engines, two body styles, and three 4WD systems give you plenty of choices. It’s sufficiently premium inside to take the fight to a class above, especially in the flagship trims, yet it can tow up to 6,200 pounds and actually go off-road if you specify 4WD. The loss of the 4xe PHEV powertrain is a shame, especially given that most rivals offer hybrid options.
