Overview
The 2027 Ford Mustang muscle car keeps America’s pony-car tradition alive with rear-wheel drive, recognizable styling, and enough horsepower to embarrass more expensive machinery. The entry-level EcoBoost produces 315 horsepower, the GT turns up the volume with 480, and the Dark Horse delivers 500. The 795-hp Dark Horse SC brings serious supercar pace to a familiar American nameplate, and the 815-hp Mustang GTD sits right at the top.
The 4-cylinder EcoBoost uses a 10-speed automatic, while GT and naturally aspirated Dark Horse versions keep a 6-speed manual available. That’s increasingly rare in performance cars where shifting your own gears sometimes feels like an endangered pastime. The range covers everything from commuting to racetrack duty.

What’s New for 2027
The headline addition is the 2027 Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible (below), which removes the roof without trimming the horsepower. Its supercharged 5.2-liter V8 produces 795 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque, delivered to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
A retractable cloth top supplies the open-air experience, while revised suspension tuning gives this version a more compliant, grand-touring character than the sharper coupe. Upgraded MagneRide dampers and chassis hardware remain, even if drivers prefer enjoying the scenery between bursts of unnecessary acceleration.
Exterior
The 2027 Mustang’s long hood, short tail, and broad shoulders remain instantly recognizable, with angular LED lighting giving the seventh-generation car a suitably irritated expression. The EcoBoost is relatively restrained, while GT and Dark Horse versions offer more aggressive detailing and available aerodynamic upgrades. At the back, the Mustang’s signature three-bar taillights remain reassuringly familiar. The new SC Convertible also introduces Precision Purple Metallic, a color with considerably more imagination than the average office parking lot.

Interior
A 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster and 13.2-inch central touchscreen bring the Mustang firmly into the touchscreen era. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard; heated and ventilated front seats and 12-speaker premium audio are available. The digital gauges can even adopt an old-school Mustang appearance, although the heavy reliance on touchscreen climate controls takes some charm out of the exercise. The rear seats are best reserved for occasional guests. The SC Convertible adds carbon-fiber trim and a leather-wrapped steering wheel inspired by the GTD.

The 2027 Ford Mustang’s price range is varied, to say the least, but at an estimated $49,000, the GT strikes a compelling balance. Its 480-hp 5.0-liter V8 produces considerably more power than the 315-hp EcoBoost, while a standard 6-speed manual keeps the driver properly involved. Standard digital instruments and driver-assistance features join an optional performance exhaust that raises output to 486 hp. The GT Premium adds comforts, but the regular GT delivers the soundtrack and performance for an estimated $5,000 less.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Strong four-cylinder and V8 performance
- Available manual transmission and convertible body styles
- Engaging handling with modern cabin technology
Cons:
- Cramped rear seats and touchscreen-heavy controls
- Expensive upper trims and options
- V8 fuel economy demands a forgiving fuel budget
Verdict
The Mustang offers several personalities under one familiar badge. The EcoBoost is a capable daily driver, the GT delivers V8 theater, and the Dark Horse models chase racetrack speed. The SC Convertible adds open-air extravagance, although its price invites comparisons with more luxurious machinery. For most drivers, the GT is the sweet spot before the options sheet gets ambitious.
