Overview

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe subcompact luxury sedan is in its second generation, and it’s the smallest four-door BMW sold in the U.S. The range now includes the front-wheel-drive 228 Gran Coupe, the 228 xDrive Gran Coupe, and the M235 xDrive Gran Coupe. The 228 xDrive and M235 xDrive both use a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and standard xDrive all-wheel drive, while the 228 Gran Coupe opens the lineup at a lower price. With seating for five and a compact footprint, the BMW 2 Series sedan remains an accessible premium four-door with current tech, standard M Sport styling, and sharper road manners than many entry-level luxury sedans.

What’s New for 2025?

The 2025 model is fully redesigned. BMW revised the exterior, introduced a new dashboard layout centered on the BMW Curved Display, and moved the car to BMW Operating System 9. The 228 xDrive makes 241 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque from an updated 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Both launch models now use a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission instead of the previous 8-speed automatic. Standard equipment also grows, with Adaptive M Suspension, heated front sport seats, Harman Kardon audio, Comfort Access, wireless charging, and Digital Key Plus now included. The body is slightly longer and taller than before.

Exterior

Every 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe comes with standard M Sport styling, giving the sedan a more assertive look than before. The front end features a wide kidney grille, large lower air intakes, and slim LED headlights with a sharper light signature. In profile, the long hood, short rear deck, and coupe-like roofline preserve the familiar Gran Coupe formula. Standard 18-inch wheels suit the proportions, while the M235 xDrive adds model-specific trim, black mirror caps, and quad exhaust outlets.

Interior

The cabin adopts BMW’s latest design direction, with a curved display that combines a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.7-inch central touchscreen. Standard equipment includes heated sport seats, Harman Kardon audio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and Comfort Access. BMW also fits leather-free Veganza upholstery as standard, while the M235 xDrive adds sportier trim details. Front-seat space is good for the class, though the sloping roofline limits rear-seat headroom. Trunk space is rated at 12.0 cubic feet, which is adequate for the segment but not class-leading.

Price Range and Best Value Trim

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe’s price starts at $39,600 for the 228 Gran Coupe and rises to $49,500 for the M235 xDrive Gran Coupe. The best value trim is the 228 xDrive because it combines the lower entry price with standard all-wheel drive, the same 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and a strong list of standard comfort and tech features.

Verdict

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is a more complete entry-level BMW sedan than before. It now spans a broader slice of the segment, from the new front-wheel-drive 228 Gran Coupe to the quicker M235 xDrive, while adding stronger standard equipment and a more modern interior. The 228 xDrive still looks like the smartest buy for most shoppers, but the 228 Gran Coupe gives the range a more accessible starting point.
