The Nissan Armada is riding high
Full-size SUVs tend to be among the most commanding vehicles on the road, which means the Armada nameplate is a perfect fit. The third-generation Nissan Armada makes its debut for the 2025 model year. With the launch of the new generation, the Armada takes a step closer to matching the Patrol model that’s available in other markets.

The Nissan Armada arrives with a new look inside and out, but it remains the same full-size offering with a wide range of trims. The Armada includes two new trim levels: Pro-4X and Platinum Reserve, as well as a new standard engine that offers improved performance compared to its predecessor.

Reason to love it #1: Fresh off a redesign
The 2025 Nissan Armada rolls onto the scene with improved torsional rigidity and lateral stiffness, resulting in better ride quality and sound isolation. The full-size SUV features all the fundamentals that put it a step above most competitors. Three-wheel options, full LED exterior lighting, and a functional air curtain located in the front fascia are just a few design changes that make the Armada an adventurous family SUV.

The Armada’s interior is crafted with upscale materials and plenty of tech. Nissan’s full-size SUV boasts two 12.3-inch screens, which get upgraded to 14.3 inches in higher trim levels. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility come standard, and a wireless smartphone charger is included in most trim levels.
Reason to love it #2: The turbo six offers plenty of power
Arguably, the biggest change on the docket for the Nissan Armada comes under the hood. The old V8 engine is out, and a new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 powerhouse is in. The new engine produces 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 25 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque over the old powertrain. The twin-turbo V6 engine comes mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission with both rear- and all-wheel drivetrains.

Reason to love it #3: Pro-4X comes off-road ready
The Nissan Armada has never been a great full-size SUV for venturing off pavement, but the Pro-4X model flips the script. In addition to standard all-wheel drive, the Armada Pro-4X features an adaptive electronic air suspension, 20-inch wheels, and an underbody skid plate. A reshaped front fascia improves the SUV’s approach angle as well. The Pro-4X boasts 9.6 inches of ground clearance, a 33-degree approach angle, and 25.5- and 24.5-degree breakover and departure angles, respectively.

Reason to love it #4: Towing tops out at 8,500 lbs.
The Nissan Armada’s towing capacity matches that of some trucks, making it suitable for family road trips. The redesigned model can tow up to 8,500 lbs. when properly equipped. For comparison, the Chevrolet Tahoe tops out at 8,400 lbs. and its optional diesel engine offers an 8,200-lbs. towing capacity.

Reason to think twice #1: Rivals offer more cargo space
The Armada’s redesign brings more interior space, with 97.1 cu ft. of cargo space available when the second and third rows are stowed away. That pales in comparison to comparably priced rivals, including the Chevrolet Tahoe, which tops out at 122.7 cu ft. of cargo space. On the bright side, Nissan’s full-size SUV offers more space than the Toyota Sequoia, which offers just 12 cu ft. of cargo space behind the third row. With all three rows in their upright position, the Nissan Armada boasts 20.4 cu ft. of cargo space. If you’re looking for a full-size SUV with plenty of cargo space, consider models besides the Armada.

Reason to think twice #2: Fuel economy lags behind
The redesigned Nissan Armada might have dropped the V8 engine for a twin-turbo V6, but its fuel economy still lags behind competitors. The 2025 Armada is rated for an EPA-estimated 16 city, 20 highway, and 18 combined mpg. The Toyota Sequoia is the only model in its class to come with a standard hybrid powertrain. It earns up to an EPA-estimated 21 city, 24 highway, and 22 combined mpg. The Jeep Wagoneer, with a twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine under the hood, earns up to 17 city, 24 highway, and 20 combined mpg.

Final thoughts
The 2025 Nissan Armada rolls out with a full redesign, complete with a powerful twin-turbo V6 engine and dedicated off-road trim. While it isn’t a perfect full-size family hauler, the Japanese SUV makes a strong stance among its rivals. Before you buy a Nissan Armada, take the Toyota Sequoia, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Jeep Wagoneer for a test drive.
