Trailer previews the last Top Gear of this era

Unless the BBC pulls some trick out of its sleeve at the last minute, it looks like the Top Gear that we know and love is all but completely done for. But before it's consigned to the dustbin of history, the British network will show one last special episode, previewed in this trailer clip.

The extended episode is slated to feature two "challenges," both of which have Clarkson, Hammond, and May each buying their own vehicles (within specific parameters) and putting them through a series of tests to see who made the best buy.

The first revolves around classic cars, bringing together a Fiat 124 Spyder, Peugeot 304 Cabriolet, and MGB GT. According to the Top Gear website, the adventure will include "brown beer, breakdowns (inevitably), and attending a car show where everything goes wrong."

The second challenge has the trio living a life of leisure – off-roading and towing trailers – in a convoy of second-hand SUVs. Apparently Clarkson chose a Vauxhall Frontera (better known to us as the Isuzu Amigo), Hammond bought a Jeep Cherokee, and May went with a Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin for the challenge.

The network has yet to announce when the special will air on BBC Two, but we'll look forward to watching it whenever it emerges. In the meantime you can get a taste of what's to come in the brief 30-second clip above.
