A few weeks ago, our clandestine spy photographers brought home the first good look at the next-generation Audi R8. We were all pretty stoked.

Seemingly following the game plan of the recently shown Audi TT, the next R8 looks to be an evolutionary update on a supercar form that pretty much everyone loves.

Today, the same shooters that snapped the car in stills have delivered some pretty compelling moving pictures of the thing. Captured both in some less-than-inspiring around-town traffic situations and out on the Nürburgring, the video delivers our first taste of the new R8's auditory splendor. Well... a taste of it, anyway.

If you're listening for clean audio of the R8 in action, we recommend fast-forwarding to the 0:45-second mark, and the 1:35-second mark, where the Audi 4.2-liter V8 (we believe) can be heard fairly well. The rest of the audio is somewhat muddied by other ring traffic, though the car still looks fairly amazing while underway. Check out the full video below.

Pfft, clear enough to tell there's ten cylinders firing in it. And I'm only 22 months old! Seyth c'mon!

I have a question: how does someone who is only 22 months old have a Facebook account and know how to type coherent sentences?

The thing I always wonder is why are there people who are 22 years old, and can't.

I like what they have done. Very similar to the porsche 911, they lowered the roof, and made the vehicle longer and more sleek.

That's 100% the V10, guys. No mistaking it.

is that a private test track? does audi test their cars on roads that the public can access at the same time? i saw a BMW and I think a Ferrari around the 2 min mark.

Nope, that's the V10, for sure. I'm wondering how much they're getting out of it, seeing as we apparently won't be seeing a twin-turbo V8 as a replacement (thank goodness).

Agreed, that absolutely sounds like the V10. The Huracan is running around 600hp out of a 5.2L, maybe they are using this in the R8 as well?

It's embarrassing to know that you think this is the V8 version and you work for Autoblog... However, so far this new R8 sounds (and imo, looks) GREAT

An evolutionary update for the R8 makes sense. It's still one of the most eye-catching cars on the road. OTOH, the mk3 TT just looks dated.
