This year's Barrett-Jackson Auction featured twelve pairs of classic cars, of which seven pairs were sold as matched sets. One of the pairs being offered included two 1969 Boss Mustangs. The pair of black 'Stangs both have white stripes and 4 speed gearboxes. One is a 429 while the other has the high winding 302 that ran in the halcyon days of Trans-Am. Each engine features the dual four barrel Holley carburetor setup (you do remember what carbs are don't you?). The pair are fully restored and sold for a gavel price of $530,000.

TWELVE EXCLUSIVE VEHICLE PAIRS TO BE SOLD AT THE 36TH ANNUAL BARRETT-JACKSON AUCTION IN SCOTTSDALE
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - December 15, 2006 - Bidders will see double at the 36th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event as a large number of vehicle pairs are auctioned at No Reserve from Jan. 13-21, 2007, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Seven sets will cross the block together and be sold as matching pairs, while five sets will be sold separately back to back. Hailed as "The World's Greatest Collector Car Events™," the auction will feature more than 1,200 of the world's finest collector automobiles, attract over 225,000 visitors and be featured on SPEED with 40 hours of live coverage.
"The only thing better than a classic, rare collector car is a near identical one to match it," said Craig Jackson, CEO of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. "With twelve pairs scheduled to cross the block, we're adding a new dimension to the auction for hardcore collectors. The chance to nab two timeless classics with one swipe will be impossible to pass up."
Highlighting the collection of pairs will be two ultra-rare 1954 Dodge Firearrow concept cars (Lot #'s 1304 and 1304.1) and an irresistible duo of 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Tankers. The red 327cid/250hp V8 (Lot #1280) and 327cid/360hp FI V8 (Lot #1280.1) Split Window Coupe Tankers will be sold together and offer extensive documentation, including race history. Lot #1280 contains a Powerglide transmission and the rare combination of power steering and brakes, air conditioning and a 36-gallon fuel tank. Lot #1280.1 sports a 4-speed transmission, Z06 race package and a matching 36-gallon fuel tank.
Two pairs of classic, Mopar muscle cars will find new homes as a 1969 4-speed HEMI Daytona and 1970 4-speed HEMI Superbird (Lot #'s 1335.1 and 1335.2) cross the block together just before a rare factory pair of 1970 Plymouth HEMI 'Cudas. The Sassy Grass six-pack Shaker 'Cuda (Lot # 1345) is highlighted by a one-off chartreuse strobe stripe and a 440cid/390hp six-pack V8 engine covered by a factory Shaker hood. Its partner is a 1970 Panther Pink 'Cuda (Lot # 1345.1) with a pink strobe stripe and a 340cid V8 engine.
The custom bike-building stars at Orange County Choppers will auction a different style of pairs when their 1968 Dodge HEMI Charger and matching 2007 OCC HEMI Charger Custom Chopper (Lot #'s 1319 and 1319.1) cross the block ahead of the matching 1960 Chevrolet Corvette FI Convertible and 2005 OCC Corvette Custom Chopper (Lot #'s 1320 and 1320.1). The two automobile/chopper pairs are four of six vehicles being auctioned by OCC in Scottsdale.
Also being sold as pairs are 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Coupes (Lot #'s 1274 and 1274.1), 1969 Ford Boss Mustangs (Lot #'s 1277 and 1277.1). Lot #1277 is a legendary Boss 429, while Lot # 1277.1 houses the Trans Am inspired Boss 302.
