Recalls announced for Ford, GM, Mazda

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a bevy of recalls Wednesday covering nearly 170,000 cars from Ford, General Motors and Mazda Motor.
By far the largest recall covers 134,365 2005 model year Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner SUVs. Apparently the driver's side padding needs adjustment to better prevent injury in a collision.

Another Ford recall covers 19,000 2003/2004 Mustang Cobras, which have a problem with the driver's-side carpet interfering with the accelerator pedal.

GM will recall nearly 13,000 2006 Buick Lucerne and Cadillac DTS models for a possible faulty power steering hose.

Finally, Mazda's 2006 MX-5 joins the recall parade because the steering wheel air bag may turn parts of the wheel assembly into projectiles if it's deployed in very cold temperatures. About 2,600 roadsters are covered by the recall.

Full details on the recalls are available from the NHTSA website.
