Daihatsu has unveiled eight concept cars based on six different models at the Indonesia International Motor Show in Jakarta. The Japanese automaker rolled out the concepts, one of which we've seen before, as it hones in on the burgeoning Indonesian auto market.

The concepts unveiled are (in the same order as our photo gallery): the UFC 2 Concept, a compact car that can seat up to seven people; the CUV Concept, which demonstrates Daihatsu's take on the crossover utility vehicle segment and features rear seats that can be rearranged; the D-R Estate, a Kei-class convertible with a 660cc engine; three versions of the Ayla: the sport-minded GT, the go-anywhere X-Track and the Luxury; and the NC-Y Concept and the NC-Z Concept, which are similar-looking five-door hatchbacks that are supposed to exhibit "practical, intellectual" and "dynamic, cool" images, respectively, that indicate Daihatsu's direction with future products.

Check out the press release we included below for a bit more information on Daihatsu's concepts.

Daihatsu to Exhibit Eight Concept Cars at the Indonesia International Motor Show 2013

PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (hereinafter ADM), a subsidiary of Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.
(hereinafter Daihatsu) in Indonesia, will exhibit eight models that will make their world debut
as well as a technological booth, AYLA Technology, at the Indonesia International Motor
Show 2013 to be held on September 19 (Thurs.) through September 29 (Sun.) in Jakarta,
Indonesia.

Daihatsu, exhibiting under the slogan, "Daihatsu is our best friend. [Daihatsu Sahabatku] "
will take on the theme of "Compact ECO Mobility Best Friend" at this motor show, and with
an aim to be a leading company in compact cars, will appeal to the audience by
demonstrating the craft of making fuel-efficient and affordable cars cultivated in Japan and
Daihatsu's initiatives that accelerated its localization on various fronts.

UFC 2 is a concept car that is an evolved version of UFC, which was exhibited in 2012, and
was designed primarily by ADM. By taking advantage of Daihatsu's compact car technology,
the car incorporates convenience that is indispensable in everyday life in Indonesia,
allowing a compact body that makes it easy to drive, while simultaneously having a large
enough interior to seat seven people.

The CUV is a dream-inspiring Cross-over Utility Vehicle with a sporty exterior that can be
used in various scenarios by utilizing its split rear door that opens upward and downward as
well as by creating space in the rear by rearranging the rear seats.

D-R Estate, which is also an evolved version of D-R that was exhibited in 2012, balances
both the joy of driving and fuel efficiency, as it is outfitted with a high-quality material interior
styled elegantly and creatively, while equipped with a 660 cc engine. (2/3)

AYLA World will address the future possibilities of AYLA that was launched for sale earlier
through the three concepts, namely the AYLA GT, an aerodynamic type that will appeal to
sports-minded customers, the tough AYLA X-track (cross track), which can handle off-road
conditions, and the AYLA Luxury, which offers a step up in terms of its luxurious feel.

NC-Y and NC-Z are concept cars that were developed in two ways in pursuit of an even
more compact form than the AYLA. The AYLA is a model that has inherited the fuel
efficiency and affordability that were realized in the Mira e:S. Meanwhile, the NC-Y adds a
practical, intellectual image and the NC-Z adds a dynamic, cool image to this concept,
indicating the direction of products that lie beyond the AYLA.

Hey I've got an idea! I'll start a car company and pay designers big bucks to regurgitate the same hatchback design eight times and only change the color on each rendering. Let's have our entire product line look IDENTICAL! What are they thinking?

Hard to believe that Toyota is letting Scion languish when they have these vehicles. I will be looking for a replacement for my 2005 xB soon and Scion isn't on my radar right now. These designs could change my mind.

I take it you aren't familiar with Daihatsu, given they have more than ten in their current lineup of Kei cars...

I take it you know little about Daihatsu or the JDM. They are the #1 kei-car maker in Japan and have a good reputation. They are as reliable as any Japanese car. They are majority owned by Toyota and that's why Toyota does not have kei's under their brand.

I'm not the type of person that would easily blame anyone on copying, but .. The first one's hood/lights treatment light looks a lot like the new Citroën C4 Picasso's, the second one's silhouette does look a lot like the Juke's, the third one is a revived Daihatsu Coopen, fourth one looks like a fifth generation euro spec Ford Fiesta (2007) with some different badging, 6 and 7 are strikingly similar too the brand new Hyundai i10 presented in Frankfurt this year, number 8 is a rebadged Skoda Citigo (pretty sure Volkswagen Group is involved here cause it looks identical) and lucky number 9 looks like an old Hyundai i10 (shape / lines / rear lights) with a new front. But then again it might be just me, and I don't think the Asians will care anyway.
