Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, but sometimes word-of-mouth advertising is more effective than attempting to create your own commercial. Take this video for Arlen's Transmission in Burbank, CA, for example. It is equal parts hilarious and creepy, and comes from the mind of comedy duo Rhett & Link, who've made quite a name for themselves turning a love of local commercials into an art form. The pair finds local businesses looking for free promotion, and then works with them to create masterpieces like this one, all for free.

If you think starting a commercial with "Hey baby, how does your car run?" is bad, things only go downhill from here... with the exception of a clean-looking Volkswagen Thing, of course. If you're up for a good chuckle, check out the commercial posted below. You can also visit here to see more Rhett & Link local commercials, as well as nominate your own favorite local business for the same treatment.

Don't hate, he is living the American dream and seems very passionate about his work and the ladies. Good for him. Anyone else think he resembles a bit like a younger version of the Iron Sheik from wrestling.

She shift, she shift, forward.....She shift, she shift, reverse..... Ok, the guy is SHIFTY, but no worse than some of the rap lyrics I've heard. Get a sense of humor folks.

I found the commercial mildly amusing, I think they did a good job, and I hope it gives them more business. Good luck to them.

His shop will be packed with mid-aged female drivers waiting for his service.

Yeah, that and divorced middle aged men hoping to get their pipes serviced by one or more of the staff. Watching this ad makes me think of those "massage parlors" I'm always hearing about. I can't help but wonder if this is a transmission shop, or a "transmission shop". Either way, the word "transmission" applies.
