The Formula Cross YFC 450, a rally kart based on the Yamaha YFZ 450 ATV from 2002-2013, has been priced at $7,500, but that's for the build-it-yourself kit and doesn't include taxes or shipping. If you want Formula Cross to put it together for you, something you might want to consider since the kit includes 40 items plus hardware, that will be an extra $1,350 after you've delivered it to their facility.

However, Formula Cross touts that every bit of their creation is customizable, so if you've got time you could have some fun wrenching your own creation – and we're told there's no welding required. The wet weight has gone up since the initial announcement, from 495 pounds to 620 pounds "on certain models," but that shouldn't stop the fun.

To get in line with a pre-order will run you $2,500, and the first deliveries are scheduled to leave the building in November. This being a completely new animal, however, we wouldn't be surprised if specs, dates and prices come in for revision before then. For a reminder of the still-potent promise of the YFC 450, check out the video below.

      Find a very used YFC 450, put this kit together yourself, and with the $1350 saved, maybe swap an engine or otherwise bring power to levels truly terrifying for something half the weight of an Ariel Atom. Possibly the most fun you could ever have with about $10 grand and a lot of dirt. Love the idea of a DIY baby rallycar that doesn't cost hundreds of thousands of dollars!

        You can buy a real AWD turbo 2.0 rally car for 10K. Used 2003 Lancer Evo's are around 8-13 grand. This model is outdated and cheap to find unlike the evo ix which is rather expensive even used with 80,000 miles going for 25K. Yet even the wrecked shell of a 2006 Evo IX is about 5-10 grand. Imagine that.

      At that weight it should be based around the Raptor 700/700R, or the Honda TRX700XX. No doubt people will be loading these down with lights, tools, spare tires, etc and taking them racing, so the extra power would be nice.

      The font looks like a 90s Vauxhall/Opel Corsa with a body kit on. From the side i think a squashed Nissan Juke. Good cheap alternative to the WRC academy. I'd like to see series based on this in europe.

      the base price for a YFZ quad is about 7500, how can they sell the car for the same price?

        @Gerardo Mata
        Buy a used quad. It says the kit works with any 450 starting in 2004 = cheap

        that's brand new. you can easily get a used YFZ for $2500-4000. so you can have a offroad rally car for abotu $10K.

      I wish you would do a story on the guy who sculpted the model/design of Formula Cross. His name is Kyu and he is one of those most unassuming person. But he has an engineering and design degree and writes articles for car news magazines/sites/blogs for the Korean market. He also draws comic strips about cars. His facebook page is... https://www.facebook.com/qkwon

      Choosing one of the most oddly proportioned cars, the Subaru Impreza, to model it after was a good call.
