When you seen an Audi prototype with enormous lower air intakes up front, it can only mean one thing: an RS model cometh. Earlier reports stated that Audi might skip the S1 and go right for the hardcore RS1 you see here, and while we've seen spy shots of what appeared to be an S1, the fact that we haven't heard anything since could mean that this RS model will be what launches first.

Fine by us, even though we American's can't drive the hot little Audi.

We could speculate all day about the RS1 getting the same 350-horsepower 2.5-liter turbo-five as the RS3, but the truth is, it'll probably use a turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant producing around 250 horsepower. That's still a potent punch in a car as small as the A1, and with Quattro all-wheel drive on hand, we imagine it'll be one heck of a good steer.

It's going to be an extreme little road fighter, but i don't think it will get the 2.5 l. 5 cylinder engine, I think it wil get a 2.0 turbo with around 270 bhp as the the golf R. And it's not gonna be cheap knowing audi. I really want one.

Wow, if it does get 250hp, Audi REALLY wants to murder Mini in this segment. The JCW Cooper S isn't even that powerful.

I usually drive an SUV or a muscle car. I own a Q5 and happen to love Audi. All disclaimers aside.... why can't we have this Audi? I love it!

The wing appears to have enough rake to be functional, but I'm hoping they can revise a bit to give it a little more style as well. It does look pretty 90's!

BRING THIS AND THE A! OVER!!!!!!! This would make for a superb STI/Evo competitor, but much smaller and more tossable, and WAY more refined. What it doesn't have in power, it makes for in weight, or the lack of it.

I can only hope this gets the 5 cyl engine, but I doubt that. I can only hope this gets proper center diff not a clutch, but I doubt that too. At least I can still hope it'll gonna be insanely fast with decent handling despite the Quattro-Haldex. I like the looks of it though. Lower, wider much better looking than the competition - MINI and Citroen.

The WANT factor is strong with this one! I will gladly rename my piggy bank "RS1 Savings Fund" if this is ever offered in the states!

audi is NOT making this in AWD - unless they changed their tune. Originally the base case was supposed to be 2305lbs (16" wheels). Motortrend tested one that weighed 2480 and still was only FWD. Audi had no plans at the time of awd - neither does mini cooper. But 250hp on a 2500lb car is the same as a Sonata (3400lbs) having 340hp. It would be a complete monster.

what the **** are you talking about?! audi was testing awd in the a1 and the RS1 and maybe S1 as well WILL have awd, like AB mentioned. so please get yourself informed next time or just shut the **** up.

You forgot one thing. Audi makes up for the weight difference with their space age chassis.
