Acura ZDX concept caught uncloaked ahead of New York debut

The espionage "artists" at AutoSpies weaseled their way onto the New York Auto Show floor before the official press days kick off and snapped a singular shot of the Acura ZDX crossover ahead of its official unveiling tomorrow morning. Acura's X6-fighter looks slightly less menacing than the teasers suggested, and the silver hue does an admirable job of integrating Acura's new corporate grille into the jacked-up hatch's shape. All the official details – including production dates and drivetrains – will be revealed tomorrow at 11 AM EST, but expect the basic shape to carry over when the ZDX goes on sale this fall.

Sure looks more like the Prius than the X6...

gag me with a spoon dude
man, the modern interpretation of the Aztek, but w/o the utility

Aztek 3.0

Aztek 3.0, now with more chrome.
Dang, why can't we have an edit button?

I'm not sure if the X6 needed fighting, since I've seen only one on the road considering I live in one of two of the car captials of the US.
ugg.tryptophan 10:05PM (4/07/2009)
if it was smaller it would make a sweet hatch, too bloated as is
Shiftright 4:06AM (4/08/2009)
I don't know where anyone is seeing Aztek in this...oh wait, it has 4 wheels, 4 doors and it does have pointy headlights...like every other car on the market right now. What made the Aztek so damn nasty were its awful lumpy proportions, due to the fact that it was based on a mini-van chassis but was trying to look like an SUV. Whether or not you like the Acura beak, overall it's well proportioned while looking elegant and aggressive. Acura ZDX: +1, BMW X6: -20 (sorry bimmer fans)

@Flamespoke
I can't comment on the US market, but I've been abroad in Paris for a few months and I see an obscene amount of X6s. I'd go as far to say as I see more of them than I do X5s.
This also appeared to be the case in Dublin and London. Maybe they're not selling well in the US, but they must be selling like crazy over here.

@Shiftright
I'm sorry, but you FAIL. This looks like a big Prius... at least the X6 looks mean and sporty (I know how that sounds, but it does). The biggest problem with the X6 is not that it's extremely ugly, but it has no utility and all the weight and size of an SUV. Now this thing has no utility, extra weight and size... but it also doesn't look good.
Xcountryflyer 5:39PM (4/07/2009)
I smell a big boat load of FAIL. That thing is horrible. It'll fit in perfectly with the Acura line up.

+1 This is exactly what Acura needs, more chromed out crap. Bring back the NSX already.
cFoo 7:21PM (4/07/2009)
+1 another epic fail. I don't expect anything less after the "new" TL and TSX fugliness. The designers will blame the economy but ultimately this will turn Honduh into the Chrysler of Japan.
ken_aisin 10:01PM (4/07/2009)
+1, as a previous NSX owner and multiple BMWs owner, Honda is driving me away the same way BMW did with these awful designs.
Yes, bring back the NSX, but ONLY in the form of the HSC concept.

Honda, if you're listening, the chrome grill is absolutely disgusting, and is a complete waste of chromium. You know what, the chromium should have gone to your stainless steel to make your cars less rust-prone.
revvo 10:57PM (4/07/2009)
And if you do want to (seriously) bring back the NSX, make sure it's mid-engine this time or don't call it an NSX.

I wouldn't say that the whole Acura line up is horrible, they have some decent stuff, but this one is for sure very bad. I liked it in the dark teasers better. I think there's gonna be more used Acuras being sold than the new ones.
Franz 5:40PM (4/07/2009)
Alright, I'll admit it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I still think this (and BMW's X6) is pointless though, but that's just my opinion.

ditto and ditto, seems to flow better than their other fugly grilled line-up.
KeatMP 6:18PM (4/07/2009)
I think it looks okay, but I just can't figure out what it is. It doesn't make any sense.
SNIFFDAR 5:40PM (4/07/2009)
And it's not too cute either...

Am I the only one that actually likes the shield on this car?
It may be the lighting...
