Click to view a high-resolution gallery of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

We've known rough performance numbers on the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe for some time now: 0-60 in under six seconds, up to 30 mpg with the 2.0T, and so on. But one set of key numbers has eluded us until now: price. Hyundai's rear-drive performance hopeful will weigh in at $22,000 for the base 210-hp 2.0L turbo model, and the 306-hp 3.8L V6 will start at $25,000.

Despite being the price leader, the 2.0T still piles on a lot of kit including a six-speed manual transmission, a full compliment of brake-related electronics (ABS, traction control, brake force distribution, and brake assist) and 18-inch alloys wrapped in Bridgestone Potenzas. Standard creature comforts include keyless entry, cruise control, air conditioning, leather wrapped wheel and shifter, a six-speaker AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 player with USB port and steering wheel audio controls, and Bluetooth.

Tuner types and gearheads will probably be most interested in the newly announced mid-priced 2.0T R-Spec model ($23,750). Hyundai has chosen not to make the R-Spec a stripped-out lightweight performance model. As such, the model still includes things like the aforementioned six-speaker stereo, air-conditioning and remote keyless entry, but the 137-mph coupe also gets Hyundai's full compliment of performance hardware, including uprated Brembo brakes, stiffened suspension, a Torsen limited-slip differential, and 19-inch gunmetal alloys wrapped with summer tires.

Follow the jump for more including details on the 3.8L V6 model, Hyundai's official press release and a full model-by-model pricing matrix.

On the top end, a full-house 3.8-liter Track model Genesis Coupe with six-speed ZF automatic will run $31,000, and that model will get the performance bits from the R-Spec listed above, along with HID headlamps, a rear spoiler, and so on. Inside, buyers will be greeted by leather seats, aluminum pedals, proximity key, power moonroof controls, and a ten-speaker 360-watt stereo with subwoofer and eight-channel amplifier.

Given the wide variety of packages and options available, we expect the Genny Coupe to be cross-shopped against a wide constellation of performance autos, including everything from the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Lancer Ralliart/Evo to the Ford Mustang, Nissan 370Z, Infiniti G37 and BMW 1-Series.

So... what tricks did Hyundai miss? If there are any glaring omissions on the Genesis Coupe's options list, it's that a navigation system won't be available until mid-year. Dealers should expect their first shipments of Genesis Coupes beginning later this month.

I wonder if there will be BTO options?
      Torsen if you want it.
While I do not see this car stealing too many sales away from the guy who wants a BMW or Infiniti, I can see the guy that wants something like a Ralliart, Civic Si, Cobalt SS, 370Z, or maybe any other car in the sub $25K range. Given Hyundai's recent reliabilty record, I can see this car selling fairly modest for a 2+2 coupe. Lets just make sure this car does not become like how the Nissan 240SX was viewed new, and more like how the Nissan 240SX is viewed today. I'm willing to bet it will be the latter.
I still dont see why they had to name it the Genesis coupe when it doesnt have anything in common with the Genesis sedan...
That is SWEET! I like how Hyundai paid homage to the S2000 with the [emphasis] stripper [/emphasis] Genesis Coupe Type-R. Kudos!
Congratulations Hyundai, you nailed the formula dead on! This car is everything the Camaro, Challenger, and Mustang could ever hope to be. But those big 3 are quite bloated and lack the refinement that Hyundai is delivering. The only way to improve upon this Genesis coupe is to perhaps offer a non-turbo 4 cylinder to lower the price of entry by about $2,000-$3,000. But it would still need to have about 175hp to keep a decent power to weight ratio.

If I were in the market to buy now, it would be a toss up between the new Genesis coupe and the Altima coupe.

this makes me want to trade my car in sooo bad...
Cool, but I'd rather have a 300 hp (v6) Camaro for $22,900. I prefer the look, though this sounds like a great car for Hyundai's line-up. I do like you can get some major performance from a 4 cyl though.
Agreed. . . 22k starting is too much for this car. Especially with only 210 hp. When you look at the fact that to get the 300hp model you have to pay 25k, you'd be better off with a camaro for $2,000 less.
This car is like the ressurrection of the old 240Z; only with 21st century technology.

This is a lot of "bang" for the buck.
It is interesting that they use the line "2.0 liter LOW PRESSURE turbocharged"

Sounds like they want tuners to go after it.
They expect this to become a tuner car, before releasing it they had aftermarket companies look at it to give them a head start to develop products, I remember someone mentioning that they were setting it up in a way that you would have aftermarket support from day one.
        remember
        http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/03/sema-preview-hks-hyundai-genesis-coupe/
If I wasn't happy with my current car this would be a bit tempting.
After the tuners are done with it, HP should be north of 240.
Finally, a car for the rest of us! Those looking for power, fun, and affordability can find all of that in the new Genesis Coupe. To kick it off, we've created website for Genesis Coupe enthusiasts at

Congrats Hyundai. Nice value for money coupe.
It's so nice to see a four banger mounted in that direction. This car is a fantastic value, makes the 370Z seem kind of silly. The dark grey one with the huge rims looks so bad. I want one.
Ligor- the Car you sat in at NAIAS turns out to be pre-production- thats why it had that hideous red interior with the badly painted yellow exterior. It was a hasty, last minute item. Give it another look once they're in dealer lots. Not saying it wont be plasticky then, but it might be better
        • 5 Years Ago
        wait til u get inside

if you thought a mustang or camaro interior was bad, this will rock you straight back to 1994. worst interior of any car I sat on at the detroit auto show a few weeks bakc
maybe even worse than the Tiburon

not to mention of all cars in the RWD between 25-30k this is by far the ugliest of them all adn will likely not handle any better than the base Mustang even though it's got IRS

Hyundai claimed the Genesis sedan would take on the 5-series, but it turned out to be barely more than a Buick with RWD. at least the interior in the sedan is very good (ugly but nice quality) , in the coupe it's just hard cheap shiny plastics
