Spy Shots: 2009 Acura TL in the buff

Click above for more shots of the 2009 Acura TL.
The 2009 Acura TL has been spied enough times to rival the Chevrolet Camaro and Nissan GT-R, and even though Acura has already released a teaser of the TL ahead of its official launch, the overly airbrushed glamour shot doesn't accurately reflect what the TL will look like in the flesh.
Our new friend Dariusz came across a handful of images of the TL hanging out in a parking lot, with only the badge on the bonnet and boot obscured by tape and the steering wheel cloaked in a towel. Check the gallery to get a detailed glimpse of the new TL and check back next month for our First Drive.

OMG LOOK AT THE BACK! OMG LOOK AT THE GRILL! OMG ALL THE SHARP EDGES! OMG MY EYES!
Just kidding. The grill is fugly, though. :)

It's funny, because it has all the right styling cues. The sharp edges are just part of Acura's design language, but when it all comes together, it just doesn't work. The back was the old TL's best part, and now they've taken away that sense of understated style.

The grill is totally fugly. Looks like something I drew as a child.
Come to think of it, everything other than the grille looks like something other car manufacturers drew and actually made. Let's bang out a quick history of the styling :)
Roof: Audi A"x"
Nose: 89 Thunderbird
Rear: Cadillac CTS mixed with Lexus ES (little 89 T-Bird in that too)
Rear Glass/Roof line: BMW
Facia: Crack House Art Room
There's more! I'm just not researching names and stuff! LOL That was fun!

Seriously. You know it's gotta be bad if the dead panel on the C pillar of Mazda's new 6 is downright artistic harmony by comparison.

"Dear Acura,
We get it. Stop blinding us with the damned grill already.
Thanks. That would be great.

The front seems to be styled with a shovel.

The Sky's taillights are stylish.
On the other hand. The top 5 Ugliest sedans of the decade go to:
Acura RL:1st place
Acura TL: 2nd Place
Acura TSX: 3rd place
Honda Accord: 4th place
On an unrelated 4 door note: the Fit takes 5th place.
I didn't mean to include ALL Hondas, but maybe they should just look less Bipolar.
Xcountryflyer 6:50PM (7/21/2008)
That thing is ugly!!! It's been ugly since the first spy photos came out. Hondas are getting hit with the UGLY stick.

It's unreal how a company like Honda can go ass backward these few years. I want to laugh at the car but it hurts so much to see them destroying such a good product.
shawn 6:32PM (7/21/2008)
wow that back end is brutal!!
does anyone think those taillights look straight off the new accord.....?
